    I'd like to navigate Mov Pics Category like this;

That would be possible with custom categories that you have to manually add, so you can combine the collections+year filters. It's a little bit of work to set it up, but you only have to do it once. It is actually on my ToDo list to expand IMDb+ plugin into allowing a way to 'share' such custom categories that take away all the trouble of having to configure it all manually (aside from the list itself that has to be created of course).

Will be easier once more users actually have the new MovPic version that has support, so they can see how it will work.

Was hoping for an auto populated+created category like trakt does. I would occasional use such category, but the amount of usage wouldn't justify having to manually create it and also having to backup + restore the custom category everytime i reinstalled mepo.

The idea behind the all category at each level is so it caters for all users.

Small movie collections can just view all movies that have oscars
Medium sized collections can split via decade if desired
Huge collections can split via individual year when desired

For now will have to keep the collection lists down to a small number so even on a large collection where you are bound to have each movie on the list it is still easy to use. Then maybe later MovPic can be expanded to where a dynamic category such as 'Collections' can be configured to sub-categorize itself based on 'year' or perhaps other conditions such as 'studios'. Could make that a MovPic ticket later, and hope that one of the developers has time to work on it.

    Scraper script v4.9.3

    - Optimized collections to merge remakes/reboots/etc

Made more sense to merge them together, because the 'title' will allow for easy seperation and there are not that many items in most series, so it all fits on a single page anyway.

Need community feedback if I should stick with the additional collection such as "Superheroes" or if I should rename it to say something like "» Superheroes" so that it will sort at the top (need to do some testing on what will look the best)

I would want a collection sorted alphabetically within the regular movies, and movies listed twice once under their name and once under collection.

I wouldn't want that. :p So I think making it an option, in the plugin, how you want it to look would be the best solution :)

    Scraper script v4.9.4 released

    - Added initial support for new Moving-Pictures 'release date' feature

Lot of new stuff coming up when an update for MovPic is released, at least IMDb+ will be ready. Right now the data is ignored, because current MovPic does not know how to deal with it, but if you are lucky to build from SVN/Trunk, then you can already enjoy it right now. Thanks to @armandp for the work on getting this done.

@kiwijunglist, that is for a future feature to MovPic, this is like an initial step towards that.
@Lightning303, I'm sure that will all be configurable indeed, same way you can do for say group headers now

    Scraper script v4.9.9 released

    - Adjusted collection system, and included support for "IMDb Top 250"

The following 'special' collections are now created:
    • » IMDb Top 250
    • » Superheroes
    • » Tolkien's Middle-earth
IMDb Top 250 is generated fully automatic based on http://www.imdb.com/chart/top, so if the list changes, IMDb+ will auto-update. This does unfortunatly mean you have to refresh your entire collection as the value is only stored during import/refresh. I'm not yet erasing Top 250 entries that get pushed out, because technically they did once belong to the Top 250. But in the end I like the Top 250 to only contain a max of 250 movies, so will have to look at that later.

Superheroes is just an accumulation of all the movies with a 'super hero'. Some very obscure ones are added and entries were decided based on wikipedia lists and a website dedicated to superheroes. You can overwrite any entry you do not agree with via the custom XML, but if enough people vote against including of some movies, I'll be more then happy to remove them.

Tolkien's Middle-earth contains LOTR and The Hobbit

I know from experience that waiting sucks, so for those users who do not build Moving-Pictures from SVN and would still like to play with the new features added, here is a test-build you can use: http://code.google.com/p/imdbplus/downloads/list

Just keep in mind to *NOT* report any bugs, unless you can go back to the official version of Moving-Pictures and recreate the problem, or know how to report bugs correctly when running a test-build. And remember to make backups of any files you replace (as well as your movingpictures.db3 database), so you can go back if issues arise. If none of this makes sense to you, then just wait for the official new Moving-Pictures release.

    New version adds support for:
    • Release date -- This will tell you the exact date a movie was first put in theaters, so it is an interesting way to filter on with custom categories. For example 'May' is a famous month in the US for big summer blockbusters to get released. It also allows a more nuanced sorting of movies. Keep in mind that for some interesting usages the skin would need to be updated as well, which is not included.

    • Plot Keywords -- additional ability to search for movies, example is easiest so with "The Avengers" you would get "shield, thor, captain america, captain, iron man". This will later be expanded with an update of IMDb+ plugin, so you can even select the full plot keyword list of: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0848228/keywords and then be able to filter out all your movies that have "scene after end credits", or locate all movies that have an 'alien' in them.

    • Collections -- This is an initial step towards full integrated movie-series support within Moving-Pictures. What it does for the time being is allow for a dynamic category to be added (same as 'Genres') that gives direct access to your movie series. You have to manually add this yourself via Moving-Pictures configuration and use the 'Category' editor to add a new dynamic menu item for collections. As a special bonus to IMDb+ users, you also get a collection entry for 'Superheroes', 'Tolkien's Middle-earth' and 'IMDb Top 250'. And for the real movie buffs, no collection is complete without having '250 movies' show when you are inside that Top250 view. It is not yet possible to let you know what movies you are missing if you have less then 250, but one step at a time :)
Keep in mind that you will have to refresh your movie collection for the new data to get scraped from IMDb website and added to the database. You can use the IMDb+ plugin hidden menu for this, so you can watch a movie while it is updating in the background (keep in mind that some slower or less multi-thread friendly systems will experience small lag/stutter during video playback). Or you can just go to bed/work/etc and let it do its thing. The average time is between 3 and 5 seconds per movie, so a 1200 movie collection will take about an hour to refresh.
