Initializing DirectX (1 Viewer)

Hi I just did a fresh install of XP. When I start MediaPortal it freezes at "Initializing DirectX" and I need to reset my computer to get it to respond after that. I have tried a patch suggested on this forum for quartz.dll but it would not install as I have SP3 already. I also tried the latest SVN. I have all windows updates.

I may reinstall my OS again and install MediaPortal first and then install a program 1 at a time and see when it freezes but thats a lot of work.

Please if you have a suggestions I will try it.

It was CoreAVC 1.8.5.0. Either it does not work with RC3 or it was a combo of it and other software.

Edit : CoreAVC desinstalled, new apply of SP3, always same pb : freeze on screen Initializing DirectX
To pass, must do 3 times ctrl/alt/del, after MP begin, but system is fully broken.

Excuse me for my poor english ^^

re: its coreavc

Hi! I can personally vouch it's CoreAVC 1.8.5.0. I've been at this for like 8 hours now (yeah...), notice how this is my first post on this forum. I finally solved the damn thing by completly re-installing my system and rollingback to 1.8, so far no issues at all.

I don't know how to completly remove coreavc (im a linux guru) without re-installing your system.

Good luck!

I hope iv'e saved you at least a few hours of painstaking debugging. :D

Ya it took me about 8 hours also as I reinstalled my OS completely. I think CoreAVC might be overwriting a important file and that file is not restored when CoreAVC is uninstalled. That's why we need complete OS reinstalls.

If this can help, I can confirm this issue.

    With coreavc installed/desinstalled :
(The 1H30 delta is until I sent CTRL+ALT+SUP 3 times for MP launch).

    Code:

It works fine with CoreAVC 1.7 and 1.8 though, in combination with Media Portal RC3

I've got the same problem after installing CoreAVC 1.8.5
The only way to start mp is to ctrl-alt-del three times and then mp starts. I uninstalled coreavc and haali but that didn't change anything.
    DAMN !!
Has anyone got a solution ??

    Greetings
    Joe
