Here's a question:

How hard would it be to set up a wiki type web page that people could add stations and/or remove (or flag) stations as no longer working? A playlist could be generated from the stations data in in the database at the time of the user's request. With a little programming, you could have a button to update upon user request or have a timer that would automatically update at a given interval. This would eliminate dead channels and add new channels seemingly automatically.

Also, if the page would not be MP specific, more users could potentially use it and the playlist could benefit from the additional users administering it. Just a thought.

I think this post is a gold mine for someone like me who likes to watch world television/radio. Thanks to all who have contributed.

Would it be possible to display the channel using the original size of the source. At the moment it just stretches it to full screen. If the source is not very good quality this looks pretty horrible on a 32" TV. It would be nicer to display using the original size. Maybe this could be done using a right mouse button menu (like in the TV).

I love this feature though. I allowed me to see the space shuttle launch live on Nasa TV. Now if only I could record it as well ....

Ok, So this is all very possible and is something i was going to gauge poeples opinion on.

So does anyone else want this kind of functionality?

Heres my idea(s):

All links can be submitted to database where they will be put into holding until verified by admin (me and anyone else who wants to help). Once verified the link will become active within the Db and put into an appropriate category.

This will avoid duplicates and ensure quality.

Next users can build their own playlists from the database or simply choose to go with the profiled playlists (eg Adult, Sport, Music etc, etc).

As a result it would be possible to supply channel logo's with each station and playlist. Additionally it should (theoretically but not yet investigated) be possible to display playlists / channels with icons in MediaPortal to indicate they are 'New' or 'under-review' etc.

Has anyone investigated the ability to add logo's via playlists / asx files etc?

Finally (needs investigation) all this could be fed in real-time via the Internet so you would simply include the link to your master playlist account on the web. This link would go into the box under radio stations in MediaPortal set-up.

So essentially you would be able to log-in to your own account on a website and add/ update / remove channels from your account / create custom or generic playlists all from within one master playlist. This could then be edited over time as your preferences change.

Let me know your thoughts. Anyone interested in this?

Anyone who'd like to help?

This isnt a plug-in as its functionality that already exists within Mediaportal. It is however currently a one man effort to maintain a set of content specific playlists that anyone can use within MP to play web based TV or Radio.

At present the Website / Database is simply and Idea! Nothing more! These would allow better control, verification and maitenance of the playlists, but will only be created by myself if their is an expressed interest from people.

I need to know if people actually think this is a good idea and whether anyone would use it. If i get positive feedback then i'll start work asap.

hi all, and sorry for delay reply... some comments about last posts:

dinki, a wiki page with updated information about channels would be a great idea, if munklefish have enough time and knows how to do it, I'll contribute with updates and translations to spanish if necessary.

I've noticed it, Alconja, the server doesn't allow me to put files with unusual extensions (pls), so I'll upload again the lists with jpg extensions and renaming will be necessary to work. It will be operative tomorrow, thanks to all for nice comments.

I think this is an excellent idea. The online database of channels sounds excellent.

I would like to add my vote to having it developed into a seperate Internet TV plugin.

Shagster / Jabnet etc,

Creating the website should be no problem, its just a case of finding the time to test a few things out and then of course actually building it. Once started it should only take a couple of months.

The only problem would appear to be as to whether MP can read online files directly ie www.somedomain.com/myplaylist as the internet radio station folder rather than one stored locally.

Ill test this over the next few days.

In terms of making this a seperate module, we could do with the help of someone who knows how to make plugin for MP. I'm sure i could work this out but it would add to the development time.

If we could get our hands on a copy of the code for the surrent radio station part of MP we could theoretically just copy this and strip out the radio stuff and only add the playlists.

So anyone interested in helping with any of this? Let me know and hopefully we can get this thing going.
