So... First problem... Somehow Software Deinterlacing got turned on the LAV filter. Corrected that.

Tried again... Live TV looks good so far... Noticed that it doesn't appear to have hardware acceleration with the LAV filter. Will try the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder.

Yes, the according to what's in the TsReader log the video decoding is taking too long - presumably because it's not using DXVA and hardware deinterlacing (and the CPU can't cope with software decoding of full HD 1080i TV)

It's working now... I will post new logs in a few... Got o take care of the Boss... Just a quick question before I get pulled away....

What's the downside of leaving the RTSP workaround in place...? Saw talk of issues about buffer files rolling over and causing a stutter every 5 to 10 minutes. However, those post were pretty old. Are all those kinks all worked out?

What you have in the client logs are typical RTSP 'lost packet' problems (which create continuity errors => stutters/corrupted video). What sort of networking are you using ?
Yes... except that if it is a network issue, why should it matter which HDD is used for timeshifting? He did say that when he used the SSD, the client was also okay.

I didn't actually say it was the network causing the lost packets ;) - I was half wondering if it was a Wi-Fi network (but it isn't).

Could drive latencies etc. affect the TV server RTSP streaming e.g. cause packets to be dropped in order to catch up with 'real time' ? (Seems unlikely, but I've no idea how/what the Live555 code does inside).

The is a known issue with Live TV stopping for some users occasionally (due to a problem with how Windows SMB2 remote file access works underneath), but I'd just see how it goes - you may not experience the issue anyway.

So... Watched about 20 minutes or so of both HD and SD live TV last night. Looked good throughout. So I guess my issue here is solved. Thanks to you folks for your help. I never did get a chance to get to the new logs after the Boss came home. I'll try to do that tonight.

Oh... and I'll probably still put that additional HDD in the server machine - if for nothing else to move the pagefile to it... When I do, I'll try re-enabling RTSP to see if it works with live buffering from this HDD (like it does when using the SSD).
