I have a Nvidia GTX960 graphics card and I'm using the latest Mediaportal and latest LAV filters set with DXVA2(Native) and UHD and HEVC ticked.

8bit x265 2160p file plays perfectly with no cpu used - but a playing 10bit x265 2160p file causes 100% cpu ...

If I use Win10's 'films and TV' as player, both play correctly using hardware acceleration and both use no cpu.

What on earth am I missing here?

I'm unable to get a watchdog (.net unhandled exception) but have added logs with relevant info in them.

any advice appreciated, while I try to fix the .net thing...

    edit/ Start Mediaportal - Play 8bit OK - Play 10bit, 100% cpu, kill process

Have you tried changing a few settings in Lav Video Decoder e.g. trying DXVA2 (Copy-back) instead of 'Native', or disabling the 10-bit Output Format options, just to see if it makes any difference ?

I just did again. set to 'copy back' and tried , also disabled all the 10bit options and its the same

It will play a 10bit using about 40% cpu in 'copy back' but still fails (100% cpu) if I then play an 8bit and then change back to 10bit. If I restart Mediaportal I can play either - it seems to go wrong when I change between them...

Win10's 'films and TV' uses 3% cpu with any of these changes - even if I set hardware decoder to 'none' so I guess its not using the LAV filters?

I'll document some more tests over the weekend.

OK, deleted everything in the appdata/local/temp to get the watchdog working.

    Start MP
    start 10bit video (3.5%cpu)
switch to live HD TV (~10%cpu)
switch back to 10bit video and black screen with 100% cpu.

It seems to never release the cpu so process killed...

    File attached.

I disabled the plugin and I'm getting the same issue.

    Play 10bit --> Live TV --> Play 10bit = black screen and 100% cpu.

I could watch the whole vid, it seems to be the changing between TV or 8bit to 10bit!

GraphStudioNext is showing the correct filters (as I configured in MP) being used.

If I drag and drop the file (not remote graph, just local rendering) and then try to play it from GraphStudioNext I immediately get 100% cpu...

If I remove the MS DTV-DVD Audio decoder and substitute the LAV audio its still 100%cpu...

Could u try downloading MPC-HC 32bit, disable its Internal Filters and try to play the same files from MPC-HC, see what happens and report back.

I could be wrong but i think Win10's 'Films and TV' is using its own internal MS Codecs.

In any case try MPC-HC and make sure it is 32BIT!
