Would it be difficult to implement for the support for the Roku VFDs?

If it uses a simple telnet connection supporting it won't be that difficult. The most difficult part will be to find the time;-)

I will certainly put it on my list.

Daze, a number of Noritake displays are already supported. There is one specifically for the Noritake Itron GU series, although it was written for the 7000 model.

Did you already try these drivers?

i did not get any output. as i know from other tools there are some diffrences between the GU7000 and the GU800 vfds.

anyway perhaps it is a wiring problem? i use this wiring if it helps:

    this is the tutorial (german):

I`m happy to see LCD implementation in Mediaportal for my LCD and all the other. Great job Joe. Until now I had no chance to test your plugin. When I´m right it supports mainly text output. I have a GLCD KS0108 128×64 LCD and I like to use some grafics (like channel logo,...) and to write my own scripts like I`m able in LCDHype. Next point is the output of cpu temperature, harddrive space and other things that have mainly "nothing" to do with mediaportal. I like the idea to have a all in one program if possible with the flexibility of LCDHype. Is it planed to implement graphic output or to write an interface to LCDHype?
    Schmidti,

You are correct. My plugin only supports text mode at the moment, although graphics support is planned for the future. I'm also planning to add a plugin system for my plugin (getting complicated;-)) that allows you to add extra functionality like PCU temp and stuff like that.

A scripting language is not on my list as the plugin is rule-based and the rules are configurable using XML. I maybe need to extend that part a bit.

    @Daze,

I added a remark to my first reply:

As you can see in my LCD Hall of Fame, Dirk also has a Noritake GU800 display. He has some problems with it, although it did produce some output (sometimes). Maybe you can contact him to ask for the wiring he is using...

    Patric and Aurora13,

    I'm sorry it didn't work :-(
I guess what I feared is correct: The USB device is also for the IR part, and not only for the VFD.

In the meantime I have learned that every USB device has one or more endpoints. The test program you tried only sends data to endpoint 0. I have made a new version (same link) that tries endpoints 0 -> 15.
I hope this one works better...

<EDIT>As you installed the USBLIB-Win32 drivers. Can you also send me the output of the Test Program that is included with it?
You should be able to find it in your start menu in the LibUSB-Win32 group.</EDIT>

ok, i wrote him a pm. he has got just one post. maybe hes inactive.

but as i can see from the hall of fame he mentioned the problem already:

"Problems: Display doesn’t show any data, because it requires the buffer to be filled completely. And this is not the case at this moment. (Really is a driver bug)"

Also i did not find this display type in noritakes display list courious.

maybe this one can help: http://www.prokopski.org/vfd/ he supplies sourcecode as well.

i'm so happy with mediaportal and a control through my display would be really amazing.

    EDIT:

    Here another source under GPL:

Aha, some sources in VB an C++. Always helpfull...

BTW, he was using my LCD Test program http://users.skynet.be/fa303665/LCDTest.zip

If he pressed the Send text button a number of the times, the text eventually was displayed.

    Joe

i'll try it as soon as i am home

here some other sources. if it is possible i'll avoid to switch to linux & vdr. i found there some other sources in this package: http://home.arcor.de/andreas.regel/files/graphlcd-base-0.1.2-pre6.tgz there are drivers for the noritake GU800A displays @ all resolutions i guess.

    greetings t.

maybe soon we have the 21th supported display :D

even though it loops through the endpoints there's still nothing being displayed in one of the cycles...

    Code:
    D:\_temp\SasemTest>SasemTest
    found 3 busses
    Found Sasem VFD IR
    Device opened successfully
Trying to send data to endpoint 0
Display should be showing something now
Press return to try the next endpoint

Trying to send data to endpoint 1
Display should be showing something now
Press return to try the next endpoint

    ...

Trying to send data to endpoint 15
Display should be showing something now

    Press return to end
