Hi Koo,

I'm using the same VFD as you and it's working perfect without particular efforts. Just make sure that:
- you installed properly the driver for your LIS2 and that the VLSystem own application (MCM, MMC ?) works fine
- take good note of the virtual COM port showing up in the MCM application configuration
- set this COM port in External Display Plugin (mine is COM3)
- IMPORTANT STEP: shut down the MCM application, it can't cohabit with MediaPortal and the External Display Plugin.

Hope this helps !

hey guys, new to this forum

I have a sony vaio PCV-MXs20, and I have no clue of what type of LCD screen has therefore I can't set it up in the pulgin process. I do know that it's capable of displaying moving graphics and logos. When I play musci the EQ with the bars moving to match the song shows up but then again it always does whenever I play any sound.

If anyone knows how I would make this plugin work with my computer please let me know.

Girder module crash when GUIDialog is displayed

I repost the problem, someone perhaps helps me...

In the release 0.1.0.3 of MP, the Girder module of ExternalDisplay work fine, in the release 0.2.0.0, every time that MP display a GUIDialog window, all the program crashes. You can press only Ctrl-Alt-Canc.

The code of Girder.cs is so simple that don't think cause of the problem, besides he has not been never up-to-date from its initial version.

I believe that the reason for the crash reside in some part of GUIDialog code, but to know where I have need to read the code of the "old" version 0.1.0.3 of MP. If I download the source of a present CVS, this shows me an up-to-date code that doesn't tell me nothing. :(

Among you there is someone that has the version 0.1.0.3 of GUIDialogYesNo.cs ?

    Regards.
    xavier.

    special characters on VFD

    Hi,

I use localized characters in MP, like: é,á,ő,ú,ű etc. I can see them in the EPG, news, weather, music menu with no problem.

    BUT.
When MP send EPG, music info etc. to the VFD, the characters are gone. The VFD crashed them or simply does not appear at all....

I use Silverstone LC11M, with Imoon VFD, with the External plugin.
Before this, I used seperate VFD with LCD smartie plugin, and everything was fine about localized character sets.

    Any suggestion?

    Thx.

    csab.

This plugin is awesome, works wonderfull with my iMON VFD. So easy to setup and works perfect :)

Edit: Saw some of you had trouble with the iMON VFD. Make sure the iMON VFD software is not running, the stupid IR part of the software also starts the VFD part. I just renamed the vfd .exe to get rid of it. I also downloaded some drivers the plugin suggested, not sure if it was needed or not. Set the display to iMON and port to USB and everything works like a charm.

    [Feature request]:
A configurable message to send to the lcd at shutdown. Maybe you can place it in a destructors somewhere. As it is now, when I shut down the HTPC the lcd stays at the last message, looks kinda strange when it says something like a song title when the HTPC is off.

Hi Guys, This is my first post.

    I've just bought a CrystalFontz 631 - 2 line 20chars VFD

Though i've not tried it yet (as i'm still building the machine) it seems that it is unsupported in MediaPortal (wish i'd read this thread before buying).

I am currently building a dedicated MP PC into a CoolerMaster 620 Chassis which offers 2 drive bays and a single floppy so I chose the 631 as it was the only one I could find designed to fit the otherwise useless floppy bay and leaves the two drive bays free (and it also has brushed aluminium finish).

Are there plans to support CrystalFontz VFD's in Media Portal in the future ?

What is the recommended method of signalling CrystalFontz VFD's from Media Portal ?

    Thanx

P.S. Really impressive piece of software guys - maximum respect to all !

 Just a quick message to inform you all that I am not dead

Since I'm back from holiday my PC was behaving strangely and last week it has decided to stop doing it's job alltogether :(

Since then I was trying to recover as much data as possible from it.

I am reinstalling everything now, so please have some more patience...
Somewhere in the next week everything should be in order again and then I'll be able to answer your questions and analyze your problems again...

Re: ExternalDisplay+Girder crash with the Yes/no dialog

    Hi JoeDalton,

with the latest CVS, when MediaPortal display a Yes/no dialog, it crashes, not answering anymore to the keyboard commands.

    Edit 03-Sept-05 Same result with 0.2.0.0 RC_1

Example: in MyVideos, I select a video to play and MediaPortal ask me Resume move to last time ? The result is a MediaPortal freeze, no keyboard or mouse response, only Ctrl-Alt-Canc to exit.

The crash occurs if I have enable the ExternalDisplay plugin with the Girder module and the Girder application is active.

In Girder I have not loaded any plugins and I have not planned any event or command (pratically none .GML file exist). :(

The crash doesn't occur if I run MediaPortal without loading Girder or if I disable ExternalDisplay and then load Girder.

    Regards,
    xavier.

    Hi Xavier,
