In this case there's only one non-adaptive quality available.
There is work going to implement playback of adaptive streams here (GitHub - MediaPortal/mp-onlinevideos2 at YTadaptive) but I didn't have time to properly review/integrate it in the official plugin

Thank you for the investigation.
It seems YouTube is converting old videos as well. I tried some old videos I'm pretty sure I watched in 720p in MediaPortal 'back in the day' and did not get a quality-selection dialog there as well.

Great to hear there are already efforts to work towards a solution.

I'm hesitant to ask, beacuse I struggle as well to find the time for some long overdue projects of mine, but has there been any progress on this? Besides the low resolution of 640x480 pixels many YouTube-videos now refuse to load at all ("connection lost. Cannot reopen"-Error message appears). Unrelated to this my wireless keyboard/mouse-thingy broke, so using a browser for YouTube isn't convenient as well anymore.

Could there maybe an option to open the video directly with the default browser as external player?

Awesome work! Thank you @doskabouter and @Pablik for this massive upgrade. I got the notification yesterday that a new version was available and did the upgrade. It simply works perfectly. Now please excuse me, I'm off to watch more YouTube in HD
