Did any of you guys see the LinuxMCE demo video? Maybe MP2 will bring us closer to that. Especially the shared media. Maybe our highly competant DEVS can have a look at that video to get some ideas and to enhance on it.

The worst part for us: WAIT for MP2

    Frodo:
I know you don't want to comment on features, but it would be nice to know what the requirements most probably will be. There are probably many here that is, like me, considering upgrading or buying a MP dedicated HTPC. So:
    • 1 - Is Vista recommended (or needed)?
    • 2 - Is a DX10 card recommended (or needed)?
    • 3 - Anything else? (That is not listed as a requirement for MP 0.2.30)
Hope you find it in your heart to answer these questions.

    * 1 - Is Vista recommended (or needed)?
Not needed, it will run on XP SP2 and Vista
We do recommend vista if you want to use the evr for playback (this is also the case for MP-1 btw)

    * 2 - Is a DX10 card recommended (or needed)?
Not needed, we dont use DX10 specific features

    * 3 - Anything else? (That is not listed as a requirement for MP 0.2.30)
    No

    DAMN - you are fast!
Not needed = no improvements w/DX10 @ MP?
And Vista is a better choice than XP due to EVR?

Like i said we dont use DX10 specific features and MP-II gets developed on DX9 cards
However a directx 10 card will probably perform better since its newer/faster and has more gpu memory

And Vista is a better choice than XP due to EVR?
yes, evr playback is much better under vista and i think most people agree that
the picture quality of evr is better then vmr9

Agreed and no stutter under any circumstances, even doing recoding with 100% cpu used, unlike VMR9.

Even John Carmack has mentioned that he didn´t see any DX10 specific features that he was dying to use. And it´s mostly used to gain speed in the upcoming games, something that i doubt would be a problem in a MP going 3D GUI.

There are a few games that look a bit different in the DX10 path but from what i understand, this is mostly faked differences. That is, it could be made to look the same in DX9 without that much effort.

so where can i sign up to be a part of the design part of mp2? :p

theres just some weird design stuff in current branch of mp id like to see not repeated for mp2 :) (no offense to any developers), ie the bloated conf xml

(id kill for a centralized database for everything (plugins, conf, everything) via multi db supporting ORM)

edit: and ill even write documents (wiki, spec, test, whatever) so outside developers can get into mp2 faster than mp1
