If this is going to represent Media portal we should not jump in so swiftly and lock “MePo” in as a mascot. As I recall some time ago there was a discussion about the MP logo/splash screen and how so may people felt that it needed to say exactly as it is.
https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/showthread.php?t=9673&highlight=logo

This topic on mascots was only started on 2006-Oct-06, 10:47 and we all need some set back, let the “wow” factor weir off. Then come back with a final group consensus.

At the moment I like the little guy, but he needs to be refined more to get my vote (his lips look out of place to me). Plus I personal feel that if this was a rusted job and a first idea from Glenn. He can more then likely come up with some other ideas as you can already see he has the talent as seen on his posts and in his website.

Please! don’t make such an impulsive discussion on such an important identity.

maybe the face color needs some tuning but I am not sure
(this dark screen might look at how black people were depicted back in the early cartoon days, which was not too polite)

Oh, come one. There is nothing racist about the darker version. Nobody was saying it was racist when he was blue/green. I personally don't think this is an issue.

Forgotten Illustrator, I don't think anybody is rushing into anything. Everyone is excited about working with a new artist, and I think MediaPortal as a whole would benefit from more diverse artistic input. We have some great people now, but more are always welcome.

And as for the lips, I think they look good. For me they resemble the stylised M, ||, from the MP logo.

    NLS.........

The "face" represents a TV-screen.
if it would be brighter , you loose the contrast for the eyes.

your constant efforts for political correctness are going a bit too far imo.
maybe you should but this energy into something more productive.
    :sorry:

Forotten Illustrator - Now this isn't about changing the logo nor the fonts, wich I don't think is a good idea so far into the MP project, this is only a question of creating a mascot that can do some PR for MP :)

I totally agree that this shouldn't be decided "over night" but we need to start somewhere and get some ideas out in the open. And now we're on our way :)

I'm in favor of giving this topic some time. I still think the mascot should not be rushed into. I have been trying to throttle the discussion back and Forgotten Illustrator was right in that I sketched the guy on an old envelope at my kid's tennis lesson and had him posed on screen that afternoon. i really was just pleasing myself and not designing a future mascot. :) It was very much a first (perhaps fifth) idea that morning. We should look around at lots more reference first.

I am not saying there IS anything racist about it. I am just pointing out that someone might take it like that (it should be noted, shouldn't it?).

    Anyway maybe I am oversensitive.

iloop I trying to be as productive as I can with my very limited time. I am sorry (not to you, I am sorry anyway), that I cannot be more productive for a project I have great belief in.

How about calling the mascot Mepol (sounds like Mee - pull) Long vowel "E" and short vowel "o"

    Just a thought.
