Let me say that a mascot for a Multimedia software needs to have also "movement". Of course not allways the macot will move but sometimes there has to be a movement.

For Independance, Individuality, the ability to change skin colour, and the ability to adapt to its environment, I'd suggest a Chameleon.

He could be a nicely designed character that is represented in about 6 or so skins so he's different on all sorts of applications. Same pose, different patterns.
