Remember this is for people who want to help, and have means to setup and test outside of a production machine, no one wants to screw up a working MP install that a user relies on.
More people testing something, the higher likely hood of coming across a scenario where a fault shows up.

You are absolutely right and I agree that the more people get involved in pre-release software, the better it eventually becomes. However, fragmenting installers and testing just small aspects of MP makes little sense. My point was to highlight that making a small number of pre-release (e.g. alpha) and pre-pre-release (e.g. pre-alpha) builds available on a frequent basis will make better use of community support.
