    12-09-2010 21:12:58.576 [ f30] DevicePeriod: 50000 (1 == minimal, 0 == driver default, other user defined)

    12-09-2010 21:12:58.891 [ 1030] WASAPIRenderer::InitAudioClient device reported latency 10 ms - buffer based latency 0

Looks like my theory would be right. 5 ms buffer turns into a 10 ms latency.

Could you test the attached binary? It should fix the 50 ms A/V sync issue you were seeing with the 500000 as device period setting.

UPDATE: unfortunately there might be a change that the latency query is done before the audio device has been initialised -> 0 latency is reported. The bad thing is that we cannot delay the latency query since we need to do it right when the preroll time is queried from the audio renderer by DS graph.

So, most likely that patch only makes the A/V sync worser. It should be 100 ms now when audio buffer is 50 ms on Xonar. But maybe it just makes us to drop few more samples to reach the correct A/V sync (just visible in the log, no audible difference for the correctly working case).

The bad thing is that we cannot delay the latency query since we need to do it right when the 1st audio sample arrives to the renderer since we need to decide the A/V sync at that point.

Mhh Seems better. (but the placebo is another good explanation)
I tried to set -50 ms (like before) and the sound haste. so something happened because -50 ms solve the delay in previous case.

Can you ask a little implementation with the new audio renderer during tests? Wuold be possible to name any renderer release with different name so "Media Portal - Audio Renderer V.11" or something like that? Much easier to test and compare..

yes, Tourettes . setting to 500.000 (50 Ms? am I right) the audio delay is about 100 ms. (-100 ms in ffdshow to compensate)

with 50.000 (5 ms) the synch is very good.

in the log a lot of new lines:

AW: Re: AW: MediaPortal Audio renderer - better video playback quality

I think you can't reproduce it with the ts file. I don't have the problems with recorded tv. I have this problem only by watching live TV

If you play a TS buffer file (for instructions how to create that see my previous post) it should be reproducible since the it s basicly the same as playing live tv. Only exception to that would be TsReader running out of the material in live tv - this kind of issue cannot be reproduced with playing a timeshifting buffer file in my videos.

    Hi Tourettes,

with the recordings I don't have any problems.
Do you know any reason for:"Only exception to that would be TsReader running out of the material in live tv "?

    Thanks

In live tv it could be that the PCs clock is running too fast when compared to the broadcaster's clock and that would cause TsReader to run out of data. But it should be visible in the TsReader.log.

It would require to provide dshowhelper.dll's that match all combinations with the audio renderer filter's name. So basicly it wont be possible. EVR presenter is looking for the audio renderer by the name.

    Yep, its 50 ms.

Yep, since there should be only 10 ms - 5 ms == 5 ms A/V sync issue.

Currently I have no clue how to solve the issue with these types of audio cards / drivers that have different latency when compared to the buffer size (in ms). The problem is quite easy to understand. Directshow requests the preroll time before we know how big the audio card / driver latency is. This is also an issue with some cards and AC3 encoding since the buffer size will be changed on the fly to match the driver's request.

We could always set the preroll to be zero ms and then just drop the data to match the latency, but it would be not so good since it would introduce the amount of audio devices latency amount of dropped data in the beginning of playback (mainly silence).

    Hi Tourettes,

I ran your wasapi test tool on my asus Xonar DX. Here is the result I have with custom drivers:

About Xonar DX (my card) Could you try , play-exclusive test ? Because our card seems to have a serious problem with Wasapi support and its event driven feature.

Sample - WASAPI exclusive-mode event-driven playback app, including the HD Audio alignment dance - Matthew van Eerde's web log - Site Home - MSDN Blogs

in case use this wav test:
Iggy pop - Tuff Baby 30sec.zip - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download

Usually the play start fine but sound became awful early.

edit : edterbak wasapi test tool result confirm mine.

    Here is my result.
It plays fine though. :) Dont like the music though.... :(
I renamed the wav-file for comfort.

    ..\play-exclusive\x86>play-exclusive.exe --list-
    devices
    Active render endpoints found: 3
S/PDIF Pass-through Device (ASUS Xonar DX Audio Device)
ATI HDMI Output (ATI High Definition Audio Device)
Speakers (ASUS Xonar DX Audio Device)

    ..r\play-exclusive\x86>play-exclusive.exe --devic
e "speakers (asus xonar dx audio device)" --file "iggy 30sec.wav"
    Opening .wav file "iggy 30sec.wav"...
Wave format in file is smaller than a WAVEFORMATEX; will zero-pad the last 2 byt
    es.
The default period for this device is 30000 hundred-nanoseconds, or 132 frames.
We ended up with a period of 29932 hns or 132 frames.
    Successfully played all 1322500 frames.

Oh my god!!! Iggy always sounded bad... But it gets worse and worse after the first run!!.
First run was flawless... Nice quality sound
second run, the last 5-10 seconds got slowed down
third run, the last 25 seconds were slowed down.... I hate Iggy now how he sounds in slow motion... :(

Your right. problem here as well.
