An optional Backend option could be to overwrite existing id-tags with the scraped data. This would mean that all music info would be consistent and look even better inside MePo.
    Try TagScanner

All of my music is perfectly scanned, so I'm good thanks. I shouldn't have bothered posting this optional backend part as both of you seem to just completely disregard the first part of my post.

You should create a new Music Plugin for MePo that presents scraped info instead of id-tags in the GUI (like Moving Pictures and MP TV-Series, but for Music). An optional Backend option could be to overwrite existing id-tags with the scraped data. This would mean that all music info would be consistent and look even better inside MePo.

    What you describe is:

Replacing My Music with another plugin that uses the filename for music files then tries to guess what the artist / album artist / album / track # / disc# / genre / year is from the filename. Then in the background it replaces the id tags (which would be pointless bc plugin doesn't use idtags) with information from the filename.

    A better solution is:

    - Tag your files (Manually or through an automated process)
    - Use existing My Music plugin

No support MePoTools until mid-August. Good luck.

    True.

Then in the background it replaces the id tags (which would be pointless bc plugin doesn't use idtags) with information from the filename.

This would be an optional batch tool in case the user prefers to have his/her files properly tagged, yes.

    - Tag your files (Manually or through an automated process)
    - Use existing My Music plugin

While I agree this work great (I use a very old iTunes version to tag my files, works great, especially when tagging multiple files), having MediaPortal more or less automatically scrape the artist/album data thus ensuring that even users who's not willing to take the time to properly tag their CD rips etc. will have beautiful music views inside MediaPortal, being able to select the correct album artwork and more would put our Music section far above other solutions IMHO.

But alas, I seem to be alone in thinking this. :(
