Tested it, and I like it.. I just stole your idea and implented it in my titanium moving pictures skin, its actually quite in style with the rest of the skin. Its a bit busy tho, with the backgrounds changing so fast. So I changed it so it stays for about 4 secs + the 1 sec animation time.

I had it at first with timeperimage 5000 msec and fadetime 2000 msec but I thought it would be confusing for the viewer (including me ;-) ) that it would not be the backdrop of the selected movie.
So I choose to speed up the fading.
Will check to see how your settings are doing.

Also, when I select a movie without a backdrop, with this setting I notice a drop in performance (not the fastest system) do you experience the same?

(btw, you can't steal it ;-) )

Not drop in performance, but the transition between movies that have, and those that haven't got fanart tend to be a bit jerky(the transition is smooth between movies with fanart, but it kind of just pops up when it goes from no fanart --> fanart). Anyways my goal is to get fanart for every one of my movies. Worst case scenario is I screenshot the rest of my movies and upload those :p All ready added the movies I was missing to movie-xml, so adding 30 backdrops wont kill me :p

It could be just me missing something here.
I just tried this plugin today. Scanned everything fine.
Then I noticed it didn't really pick up on the multiple part movies (spread across CD's). For example:
Pirates of the Caribbean I - The Curse of the Black Pearl CD I.avi and
Pirates of the Caribbean I - The Curse of the Black Pearl CD II.avi

They reside in the same folder as the other pirate of the caribbean movies.

I decided to set the option "Prefer folder for single part movies" to false, dunno if this is gonna do what I want though.
So did that, and wanted to rescan all the files. So I pressed the "Force Rescan" button but it just sits there doing nothing.

Maybe I'll just dump this current DB and start over but it seems like the force rescan is overpowered by some other force (what's that you say luke?)

Try renaming them to -cd1 and -cd2, thats the way I have it and I know that works. If you read up a bit theres listed more names they can have that the plugin recognizes. Force rescan does not let you start the scan over from scratch (like you would think), FForde explained it earlier in this topic. He's changing the name for that button in next release I belive.

If I where you I'd just rename those files, delete my DB and start over, but if its not to many files you can of course add them manually.

Yeah, with earlier releases we were having problems with false positives with the grouping system, so we made it a little bit more picky. I'll make sure the pattern you mentioned (CD I, and CD II) gets added in the near future.

Also keep in mind via the importer screen you can manual group or seperate groupings that are not correct. For example, to group the two pirates of the caribbean files you referenced above, you would just need to highlight both and click the join button.

As far as the Full Scan button, Darre is right, the name is misleading. It will cause a full rescan of the file system, but that basically means it checks for files not already in the system, it will not wipe clean and re-load your files from scratch. There is some other functionality I want to expose here in the future, so I will get it cleaned up and made more clear as soon as possible.

is it scanning subfolders? I selected my movies folder but each movie is in a separate subfolder, when I add the folder it wont find anything, but if i chose one of the subfolders it will find the single movie, am i missing something?

also what skins work the best so far with this plugin?

thanks

EDIT: i just looked and currWatcher.IncludeSubdirectories = true; is set... ill have to look at the logs

Yeah, it scans sub directories for sure. Is it not adding the files to the list at all? What are your file names? Are the extensions on your files all uppercase? There is currently a known issue causing problems with oddly cased file extensions. It is fixed, but wont be available until the next version.

Scan speed depends entirely on movie-xml.com, the primary data source for the plug-in. At certain times of the day it is very very quick and responsive. I have scanned in my collection of 120+ movies in less than five minutes. Other times, it is very slow or just down. :( This will be addressed in the next version which will support (among other sites) IMDb as a data source. Sorry you are having trouble, but unfortunately I would recommend you try rescanning at a later point in time. :(

All that being said, I just queried movie-xml.com and it seems to be pretty responsive right now. If you want to post your log file, I will take a look and tell you if anything looks fishy.
