Moving Pictures Public Beta 0.5.5c (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I had some trouble with MP, so I re-installed it.
Now, after use the same Moving Pictures Version as before (0.5.5.c) It appears in the config, but if I click on Plug-ins to configure, a warning pops up saying:

"An error occured while loading the plugin
MediaPortal.Plugins.MovingPicturesGUI.
It's incompatible with the current Mediaportal version and wont be loaded."

Ok, the message is clear, but I still use MP1 RC2? What did I wrong? I followed all steps in readme.
In MP MovingPictures appears, but I can't choose it.

Ok thank you.. these aren't currently matched by the grouper indeed... (cars would if you remove the 0 from the filenames, and pirates also if there wasnt a number before the a/b). I will see if i can make them match without creating false grouping for other filenames but this is on the edge as some names are just too ambigious.

What do you think is the better action to have as a user... manually split the movie files or join them?

I guess as a user manually joining is the easier option but obviously its better if this happens as rarely as possible. Dont get me wrong I am not having a dig, just trying to provide useful feedback.

One suggestion that may help for determining these files as part of a movie might be the comparision of the file names within a directory and then discount the characters that are matching.

eg. with Cars if you compare mvn-carstsxvid01.avi and mvn-carstsxvid02.avi and remove the matching chars then you are left with 1 and 2. Likewise with PATC you would be left with a and b.

Another suggestion would be an option to force all files within a directory to be part of the one movie.
Personally, I have all of my movie files in separate directories.

We essentially already do this, although the algorithm is a little more sophisticated because it's used for other things in the app as well (like auto approvals). The catch with auto grouping is we also check for common two (or three, or four, or etc) part file patterns. Like cd1, cd2, stuff like that. There are quite a few things we check for but you will sometimes get pairs that are not auto grouped because we currently err on the side of caution. Right now the app tends to prefer to NOT group files if it is not super confident in a pairing. There is always room for improvement, but it will always also be a balance, and unfortunately it will probably never be perfect.

That is very odd, I and many others have tested the plug-in with RC2 (about 50% of our user base uses RC2), as well as almost all the SVN versions up until now. If you post your logs I will take a look though.

Yeah, I do understand that any algorithm is not going to match every pairing. The possibilities would be infinite and hence extremely difficult to process. This is where an option to force grouping of files in a directory would be awesome. If that option was in effect the plugin would know that those files were grouped. All it would have to do was determine a file order.

I had the same in the earlier versio of the plugin. Deleting of the database helped resolving the problem.

For what it's worth i managed to get these files grouped within the "safe zone". So this will be working for you in the next version. I will also consider the option you mention, but such an option if implemented will be defaulted to off because it would create havoc for users with multiple movies in one folder

is that named like movie.1.ext and movie.2.ext ? because that will group fine... (at least in the current trunk/next version)
movie 1.ext and movie 2.ext won't however, this is because of sequals. Like fford said earlier we did use the proposed algorithm in the initial versions but that one has a lot of other issues on his own.

edit: i've added an advanced setting to provide the option mentioned earlier to always group files that are in the same folder. This setting is disabled by default and can be enabled by anyone that is sure to have a "one movie per folder structure".
