MP 1.2.3 won't install because .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is missing -- BUT .NET Framework 4.0 Extended IS installed!!

    Hi cewillis

Holzi is correct - .NET framework installations are not cumulative.

    OK, thanks guys.

btw, mm, did you see the conclusion of that other problem you were trying to help me with a while back?

    Hello Cal

No, I hadn't seen the conclusion. As I recall, the problem started when frequencies changed in the first place. Is it a routine thing for cable companies to change frequencies like that? If so, I guess you'd be crossing your fingers, legs and toes that they don't decide to change frequencies again any time soon! :D
On a slightly more serious note: I do find it interesting that WinTV seemed to handle the test case in the second to last post better than MP.
    A strange problem all-round I think...

    Warm regards from NZ,
    mm

    mm,

Don't know about the general case, but my little cable company did a lot of changing frequencies starting when the USA broadcast channels where required to change to digital. The cable company followed suit by putting the local channels on the cable in both digital (QAM) and analog, then did a lot of moving things around for whatever reason (optimizing cable use, etc).
There are probably a several speculations that could be made -- but I'm content to leave it at strange -- .

btw2, I see you've seen the PM (or conversation) that I sent you in Jan. The logs mentioned are at https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...-thats-holding-me-back-from-upgrading.105869/ if you're trying to waste some time. Not holding my breath --

    Best,
    Cal

That thread really doesn't seem to have been particularly productive or helpful to anybody. :(

After a quick look at the logs, my suspicion is that the problem is either codec or renderer related. I say this because:
    1. The audio codec fails to connect to TsReader in both examples.

So I have no idea what audio codec (if any) MP would be using.

    2. The VMR log seems to suggest that the renderer may have stalled dead in its tracks. No idea why - I know very little about this particularly complex area of the code.

I don't have any recommendations further than trying different codecs (particularly different audio codecs) and make sure you're using the latest recommended drivers for core hardware that might be involved like your GPU (what brand and model of GPU are we talking about here?).
I certainly can't say whether such a problem has been fixed in later versions of MP as I don't know for certain what the problem is...

    MM,

Thanks very much for looking, and for the suggestions.

First, both video and audio hardware is built into the Intel DH57DD motherboard I use, and the drivers are supplied with the MB. I will certainly see if there are any updates for the drivers.
Codecs are as shown on the attached image. As it stands now, there are no other choices for audio decoder (that's that stock setup for 1.1.0.0) I'll need to learn how to install(?) other options. Any particular codec recommendation?
The audio renderer has several options as shown. The selected one seemed to produce the best audio over the HDMI connection. I can try others. I've tried once or twice t0 put sound through my audio system (Infinity RS 4.5 speakers), but haven't succeeded yet.

As mentioned, this problem has a large degree of randomness to it. Problem sometimes happens (almost) every day for many days -- then no problem for several days. As it happens, I haven't had the problem for a while, until this morning - just before seeing your post.

    Thanks again,
    Cal

Yup, try the LAV filters as HomeY suggested. I note that they can be installed as part of the MP installation with MP 1.3.x. The MPC ones are quite old now and not nearly so capable.

I wonder if the HDMI factor could be causing issues... although this would possibly only become obvious when filters are connecting properly.
Could you describe your setup in a bit more detail - gear and connections, but also power states (like if you have a receiver, is it always on, and/or does it get powered on before the HTPC resumes).
If you haven't installed the LAV filters already, could you please also grab us some logs showing a "working properly" scenario - sometimes being able to compare and contrast helps to isolate the problem.

Random problems: gotta love 'em! :(
    Understood.
