Just out of curiosity... I disabled Norton IS firewall to see if this issue could be repeated while the firewall was disabled. The answer to that question is yes. I still have occasional excessively long channel changes and switching to new tuners etc. with the firewall disabled.

    Thanks T^2 (y)

It is 04:30 here in NZ and I haven't slept yet, so I'm hardly thinking straight... but it looks to me like the tuner is delivering the stream.

Next step: enable data level debugging on the IPTV source filter (also used for CableCARD tuners).

    1. Open TV Server configuration.
    2. Click "open log directory" in the top left corner.
    3. Go up one level.

Now you should see an MPIPTVSource.ini file. Please open it in any text editor (notepad, wordpad, whatever) and set the LogVerbosity to 5 (data).

Once you've done that, I'm sorry to say I'll need you to reproduce again. (At least I think we're making progress narrowing down the cause... :) )

Caution: leaving data level debug enabled is not recommended. You'll get huge log files. So ideally you'd delete the MPIPTVSource.log before each channel change when trying to reproduce.

Hope this makes sense. I better get some sleep before I become totally incoherent! :p

Wow... certainly did not expect to hear anything from you until much later today at the earliest... Figured you'd be crashed out at the moment...[DOUBLEPOST=1391183758][/DOUBLEPOST]Got lucky this time... Anomaly occurred on second capture attempt. MP Logs and Wireshark capture attached. Data level debugging on the IPTV source filter was enabled as instructed above.

Another capture just for good measure.... MP logs and Wireshark capture attached.

Relevant sections of the HDHR log for time and channel info for both captures...

[DOUBLEPOST=1391186681][/DOUBLEPOST]One other thing... If I remember right... LogVerbosity was set to 3 (info) before I made changes to the .ini file (changed LogVerbosity to 5). So I set it back to 3 after I was done getting the captures. I also stopped and restarted the TVServer service (don't know if this was necessary, but just in case). However, I noted (with MP running and Live TV playing) that the MPIPTVSource.log file was still incrementing at what appears to be the same rate as when LogVerbosity was set to 5. I also noted in the .ini file that the log file max size is set to 10485760. So I guess it doesn't really matter - I won't end of with a huge drive consuming file. My guess is that it wraps around when the max file size is reached. Anyway, just out of curiosity, I set LogVerbosity to 0 and restarted the service to see what would happen the next time I ran MP with live TV. The file size didn't change (what I expected). I've now have reset LogVerbosity to 3 (as - if memory serves - it was before I started messing around). Please advise if I got something that I need to be concerned about.

Not to hijack your thread but I'm also having problems with MediaPortal not releasing tuners. As you can see below, the tuner for HDHomeRun Prime Tuner 1319F623-0 is supposed to be free but as you can see on the left, that is not actually the case. Just wanted to bring this to your attention so you know your not the only one having problems. I've attached a few of my logs files incase the developers which to take a look. Hoping we can get this issue sorted.

    Thanks,

    A Happy cloud

    Hi folks

Sorry for the delayed response. I'm in the process of moving and currently have no internet access at home (at work right now).

@T^2 I'll look at your logs as soon as I can.

    @A Happy Cloud
As per the earlier part of the thread: firewall.
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...ivating-tuners-when-done.124174/#post-1057468

As far as I know that problem was resolved by firewall configuration for T^2. We're looking at something completely different now.

    mm

Yes, I have configured Windows Firewall to give full access to TVService.exe however I am still running into problems with the tuner not being freed. I even ran the command line script here to make sure al the necessary ports are open. However, I am only able to get it to work somewhat smoothly with the firewall disabled. Is there some other program/port I should configure within the firewall?

This would be a thread that relates better to the problem you're facing:
    https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/hdhomerun-prime-tuner-locked.124328/

The firewall has to allow ICMP packets generated by sending a packet to a closed/non-listening socket/port through to the PRIME. They're not generated by the TvService.exe or any application in particular. I'm not sure how to stop the firewall from blocking these other than to disable it.

So do this apply to me as well?

So the SD folks over at the associated HDHR forum suggested that I uninstall Norton and see what happens. For S&G's I went ahead and complied. So uninstalling Norton automatically turns Windows Firewall (WF) on. With WF on, tuners are not released (same as when I have Stealth Blocked Ports enabled in Norton). I played around a little bit to see if I could get WF to work. Didn't get there. I looked at the inbound rules and and it appeared that ICMP was allowed. I didn't investigate much further (I guess by the traffic here and elsewhere that there are suggested WF settings for MP... I'll look into that). I just went ahead and turned off WF. With WF off, the tuners were getting released. So I guess that shows - for what it's worth - that it's not exclusive to Norton. I should again note that when I say release that it is different then when HDHR QuickTV releases a tuner (LED goes out immediately). When MP releases a tuner the tuner LED blinks for some time before going out (I guess indicating that MP still has it reserved but not active). I still wonder if that is by design.

Also, the intermittent excessively long channel change issue that I collected data on still remains...
