I'm going to try the SAF unlocked. What's the best way to uninstall existing codecs?

If they don't get uninstalled with the programs/packages they came with then "regsvr32 /u <path to codec>" on the command line.

Thanks for that - I thought there might be an alternative to searching for all the different ax files and unregistering each one.

Anyway, I decided to chance not unregistering them (don't have many) and SAF5 unlocked installed fine. I watched TV using PDVD10, although I thought there was a bit of latency in the picture, a sort of blur (on HD channels that is). I'll try it for a while and see how it goes.

you should not need to uninstall any codecs just set the H264 codec you want in the TV codec section

Sounds interesting - I haven't tried PDVD newer than 9. I'll try installing the SAF and using PDVD 10...
    Thanks for the hint.

EDIT: Quick update... PDVD10 seems to have stopped the crashes :)
EDIT: Another update... but it caused bad stuttering on all HD playback. Tried all sorts of other codecs and settled on the ArcSoft one. Nice picture quality, really smooth playback and seemingly much lower disc access (although that's probably just because with PDVD it was continuously writing "Late frame" errors to the log!). PDVD still works fine for SD.

On Windows 7 x64 I use Microsoft video decoder and DIVX AAC decoder. Perfect playback of BBC HD, BBC 1 HD, ITC HD, CH4 HD. Every now and again it throws a wobbly but not very often.

    Another update from me...
Some odd behaviour came back even with ArcSoft. On a recommendation from somebody here I tried CoreAVC and it's working really nicely for BBC and ITV HD channels. It won't do hardware decoding on my ATI card (it's CUDA only) but my CPU seems to cope with it with no problems (Athlon 64 x2 4450e, 60% load on both cores when watching HD).

Yes, it is a recognized problem with ATI's DXVA function when decoding H264.
Here in Spain every ATI user have the same problem with HD channels (only two of them).
You just have to disable the DXVA function, whatever the codec you use (I use ffdshow), which is a shame, because it'll use your CPU instead.
