to check RC2 against RC3, you could run the backup settings plugin, remove RC3, install RC2, and check if the channel change SD/HD is working in RC2.
I'm useing RC2 with out any SVN, and were happy with that version, and based upon the forum issues, the RC3 seems not the way to go just yet.

Unfortunatly, now I can't start MP

as you see in first error.log it complain about medipartal.exe.config, so I removed this file (wich was empty) then I got the second error.log

See 2 logs attached

I will look into ronilse's log collector request...

EDIT:

Added file from log collector, don't know if it helps now, bacuase since last bsod I've been unable to start MP, as described above.

Not sure if I understand correctly but I ran the RC3 installer, and went through the options of installing, but it didn't do anything, since it was already installed. Hence it didn't help. Do I need to uninstall ?

    Hi,
Run installer from deploy folder, there should be a package-mediaportal.exe which you can start & use the option re-install without uninstalling first.

For future reference, if you are like me and have problems finding the deploy folder, you can actually unzip the Mediaportal-RC.exe with a unzip program. Voila you have the deploy folder... :D

EDIT, also for future reference, when doing this your skins and plugins are gone, fortunatly the installer makes a backup of you current MP folder so you can copy it back.

    EDIT:

I think I'm onto something here, during the reinstall of MP I opted not to install the mpv/mpa codecs. The result.... shocking...

Tuning HDTV channels worked like a charm, no problems, except I had no sound...
I registered the MPA codec, and what happens, change from SDTV to HDTV and the ATi gfx kicks inn a vpu recover again, try again, BSOD !!

Then I try again without MPA codec, no problems so far (except no sound)

Now I need to find another audio codec to test with, any suggestions on a free good codec ?

    VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE

I'm 99% sure I've nailed the problem, unfortunatly not the solution.

As I said withouth the MPA codec channelchange worked fine, I went looking for another audiocodec and installed AC3Filter. Well guess what, as soon as I set up AC3filer in MP, I got the sound back but also the channel change problem. When changing channel to HDTV I got a VPU recover and crash again.

I use the FFDShow Audio codec for everything, so far it has worked flawlessly, have had issues myself with AC3 giving exceptions within MP previously :(

you need to configure AC3 to be handled by FFDShow, also your speaker output.

    Hi,
If you have M$ audidecoder use that or try latest ffdshow (i use the one that comes with vista codecs. Both of them work fine with MP in different situations).

Btw, that ATI recover i too, unfortunately a common problems for some ATI cards, subtitles when watching tv solves that here, but not a good solution....

I think we nailed it now.

I set up ffdshow tryouts, on my first try it changed channel but I only got a black screen. I was on my way to post here, when I notice the gfx driver didn't do a VPU recover this time. So i started up MP and tried once more, and this time it worked, changed channel several times, sd->hd, hd->hd, hd-sd.

It needs more testing to confirm, too late now, so I will get back to it tomorrow.

Funny thing though that a sound codec would cause vpu recovers, and bsod in the ati driver.
