The server will manage all attached MP-II clients, their local resources (shares)

Does this mean that shares will be stored on the server or on the client?

The information about the client Shares (media provider, path, name, ...) will be stored at the server as well as at the client. At the client, it is needed for the unconnected mode where it is still possible to browse through the client-local shares. At the server, it is needed to make it browsable for other clients.

    Thx for the update!

But besides the server/client architecture, what will be the major improvements in comparison to the current MediaPortal?

I'm sure you talked about this a lot on your meeting in Frankfurt, maybe you could share a few thoughts on the future of MPII with the community? ;)

    :D

You'll read about that in the future. I'll continue writing blog entries all few weeks. But as we have so many improvements and I'm very busy with developing for MP-II, it will still take a time until all aspects can be explained. I hope you continue to be patient a bit :)

    Much appreciated, thx!

I checked out the current version and saw that you're integrating UPnP from the beginning -> very nice!!! Couldn't get the server running though since I didn't find any info on how to setup the (firebird?) database!

I don't have any problem waiting really appreciate all the hard work and I know the kind of talent it takes to put this all together. Very excited to try out the new MPII whenever it may arrive.

    THANKS for the great product.

Hi developers! When can we see an live tv implementation in MP2? Appriciate the hard work and spare time you are putting into the project but i'm very curious.

Really happy to read that you went the server/client path, but will you implement users aswell? So that I can start watching one movie in the kitchen, and when I move to the livingroom I can continue watching it there without much trouble? Or so that I can have my watched tags wherever I choose to watch something? This is an essential part of a server/client setup imo.

And I would also like some way of running the server on a server-OS to streamline the network setup, I understand the problems though :)

I think it will be kept as before: NO official support for server OS because of intensive problems of supporting "standardusers" on how to tweak the system (BDA drivers, DX-files, etc.). But for people willing to do, it can be done "without support" as today - I think this is acceptable and understandable ...

a usermanagement can be added, but it is not on our roadmap yet because there are many much more basic tasks to finish first.
the watched tags been thought about. But again, we are still at an early point of development. :)

We did not even start the complete rework of the TvServer for MP2 yet. ;)

 So LiveTV cannot be used in MP2 from the start? The survey conclusion was that TV was also very important.
