Hi All, I would like to have MPII on XP too. I have spent quite a bit energy to trim XP down to make it boot fast and work on old machines. Would not like to invest time and money for new machines and Windows without any substantial benefit.

Imagine the time and energy devs are spending on coding mp2.;)

there are many substantial benefits to win 7.

And those which do not want to upgrade their systems for MP2, still have MP1 at their hands which works nicely. :)

Also keep the timeframe in mind we are talking about here.
I would dare to guess that MP2 is not ready to be used on a production system before the end of 2010.

I think the right decision is to keep XP out of MP2. When starting from scratch with such a huge project supporting an extra platforms from the start would be much more work. As for now, MP1 is doing the job just fine :)

The estimated timeframe itself should give an idea of how much effort is being put into MPII. I am looking forward to a system with Win7 and MPII, and can only imagine what is required to get an excellent, feature-rich and COST FREE app out that is stable enough for production systems. Patience is the key here.

All I can say is keep up the good work to everyone involved in the bugfixing and development processes. :D

Yes, as especially there are severe technical limitations in XP. Even Vista has some missing features for media playback when compared to Windows 7, but those might be able to overcome.

This migtht sound crazy, but why worry about Vista make it Windows 7 only, keep the workarounds out of it alltogether. 1.x.x works fine on Vista.

This is actually what the team is discussing. Even the support for vista will require workarounds in MP2.

This will cause that some sections of the code will become more complex, harder to maintain, test and it will slow down development.

Question now is if all these efforts are worth to be spend for the support of an OS which was "skipped" by most of the users and allready is 3 years old?

Since Vista will be 4+ years old when MP2 is "ready" for poduction useage, we tend to say "NO".

And as you said. those which do not have W7 at that time in the future, still have MP1. :)
