Have been using MP with TV Server for 4 years. And yes - it was hard to resist not going to some other tv solution. But now it is different story. Would really suggest to try again :)

What other tv solutions are you taking about as I have had alot of problems with tv server. Whilst its working at the moment, I'm not completely satisfied and I hope the tv server that ends up in MP2 is much stonger.

Just three words for you Iceman89610 - For The Record :)

I migrated over to using Live TV under FTR a few weeks ago and haven't looked back.
I certainly don't miss waiting 20 seconds for just about anything in the config to complete. TV Server got really slow after you had a thousand channels or more.. Astra 2 is just full of crap I suppose :)

Have no problem with bigger amount of channels using TV server. Nor channel EPG redraw neither switching speed. Some interesting thing is that on same machine speed is a bit (0.5s) longer then connecting from other machine to TV server.

Also about graph rebuild when channel signal is week or absent - use OWLSROOST tsreaders and this will be problemfree.

I would say that for the moment I do not realize what better could be in "next versions" of TV server :)
I would say that ts reader could be faster, but not TV server switching. I think people are messed about TV server side and TV client performance. That is why thay are saying those bad experience words about tv server.

It is possible that anyone can compile one of the last svns (MP2) for me ? I like to try and test it and of course i like to see.

we are currently working at a special tve3-experimental branch/fork.

    It has been heavily reworked.
A lot of refactoring has been done in order to improve the overall infrastructure of the codebase.

    stuff like:

    * setupTV is now able to run on any client (see it as a true multiseat client like MP is)
    * remoting removed. WCF introduced (client - server communication protocol).
    * client => server polling now removed. Instead the client uses WCF callback events.
    * gentle.net removed. Entity Framework 4.x introduced (use any EF certified DB backend, mysql, mySQL etc.)
    * tv client (mediaportal) + setupTV now doesn't connect directly with the database. Only the tvservice has direct DB access.

then we have a few patches.
0003369: tvserver is not threadsafe. - MediaPortal Bugtracker
0003296: Rework loading of TV recordings - MediaPortal Bugtracker
+ a lot of other internal patches.

+ the initial work for a real rulebased scheduler :)

u can follow the changes here:

Wow!! What to say - that is communication gaps :)

Even big companies nowadays are making "teasing" based communication about new products ;)

I do not want to ask, but it is difficult to withstand - some alpha, maybe??

AWESOME! Many thanks for the current state report gibman, it sounds really incredible!

The only sad thing about all this is that improving MP1 so much is going to be worst for MP2 development :( The MediaPortal Team should seriously consider stopping the development of MP1 and start migrating to MP2 as we are putting MP1 to its limit and the future will be brighter with MP2 (it's better thought and much more modular).

BTW, is there any dev currently working on MPTVClient? I would love to see the parameter launcher option included in a future version of MediaPortal. It would allow, for example, EPG searches from any MediaPortal screen (you could easily search for new airing episodes of Breaking Bad while navigating through MPTVSeries just with the menu button and pressing "search in EPG") and many more new options that I'm sure our plugin and skin developers will create.

Many thanks again for all your work and best regards,

    Aitor
