Disclaimer, my computer was doing some heavy processing on another project (100% cpu) so I think my initial results may be skewed
ok, loaded up, clicked artists and it looped and looped for over 5 minutes (I have about 12000 songs) After a while I tried to get out, I could go to previous menu, then clicking the power button I get a kibg error statement, click ok to terminate but no ok.
So, I cannot stop the program, fortunately I can launch another program, get start menu and go to stop active programs.
And, ip address is reset each time, once a proper stop is setup, will this be remembered?
If I click media library, then control, get a managed exemption there as well, no ok to click either.
Tried looking at albums, same issue.
By the way, do I copy just the dll file to plugins\process and root, or the directory and the file? I did all 4 as a precaution. I did not restart the computer, do I need to do that? Under MP setup, it shows the plugin and it is enabled.
Oh, got sick of waiting for albums, held down and selected play, then all of a sudden many blinks and my artists populated. I tried to select one but no response, in fact it locked the pda. It finally responded then program shut itself off.
Restarted, entered ip again, clicked artists and after short delay multiple flickers and artists populated. selected first artist and no response for a while, (and actually slowed response on my mp machine) then subfolder appeared. Selected subfolder, it highlighted, held it a while and it finally played! WooHoo!
Ok, very slow responses, but I'll work with it, my server was doing a lot of other things that might have interfered with this.
Anyway, back into media library, select now playing, no response. go to controls, there's the info. Pretty good, shows time elapsed (in seconds), album, artist, duration, file name, genre, then title, track#, year. Pause and play work, skip forward (placed funny) doesn't respond and no skip back.
ok, skipforward seems to jump between menus. How does one navigate amongs the selected songs, they don't show up in playlist and there is no next song/previous song? Also would be cool if the songs in the album were listed so I could select between them Oh, stop works, but then you can't start again, specifically if you've navigated to a different menu in mp.
and enque is not implemented yet, several media library features not setup. Oh, and now that it is working, I can exit the program. I am so confused! ip address resets, library takes 10 seconds to load! Sweet!
All in all, anexcellent start, I will keep playing with it and post what I find. Thanks, this is gonna be awesome!
I uploaded a new zip file (same name as previous) that should work better...
oh, and also a disclaimer:
this software isprovided "as is"
I will not be held reliable for damages caused by improper use ......jada jada, you get the idea..
I'll keep working, looks like there is room for improvement..
No problem with damage, I ghost and backup my computer and pda before playing.
Requested fixes from what I've seen:
have it store ip address
Show songs in database under albums
what would really be cool is a way to import a database into the pda, so it doesn't have to spend as much time reading it. Every time I select an artist for the first time, it pauses while it uploads all the album info.
next and previous song.
And of course the non implemeted stuff, weather, diveos, album art, playlists, etc etc.
ok, downloaded new skin, had to go through that long wait to get the initial database, still hesitates when selecting artist (as it gets albums)
now playing displays time passed, no id3 data. Controls now makes sense, no now playing data, either here or in now playing, must've gotten lost somewhere.
skip forward and backward in controls works (skip back goes to previous song, not start of current, cool!)
Ok, after skipping forward, now id3 data shows in now playing, buggy but works. Maybe it was delayed on my server.
Oh, to play an album, you have to select so it is highlighted, then hold down and select play, I wasn't doing this. Question, can I use this to select all from an artist rather than sub albums? Anyway, my previous comment about delay to play, scratch that. Significantly improved with this skin, great work
I suppose I could make something to cache a copy of the database on the client, I'm just worried about memory usage..
It's using 11 MB as it is on my system, and on a Pocket PC that pretty much. (on mine, that is..)
what if I made a background process te load the main nodes of the treeview.. (Artists, Albums, Genres...)
does it really take that much time to load albums when selecting an artist? on my system this takes less than a second..?
Yes, You have to highlight the node and then select play.. I will have to work something out for this.
now playing is not done using the best solution, but it never failed on my machine..
anyway, it needs reworking, so I hope it works better then..
I'm not worried about size, I have plenty of room on my pda, (a 1gb sd and 2gb cf) either a background process or a downloadable cache would be fine. Just cacheing names should not be as big a deal.
I think a lot of my delay is from a compression process eating my MP machine cpu's, I'll play with it later when that is finished and see if it improves.
So far it is a very workable solution for me, the only other thing that would really be cool would be able to see a list of songs I have selected to play. Oh, and a shuffle key, gotta be able to randomize.
