I have been passively following this thread. I am wondering what can be done currently, what cant be done, and what will hopefully be available in time? Is it stable and versatile enough that I can purchase a Dell PDA or something, plug it in and it will pass the dreaded "girl friend test"?

Keeping in mind that the MP application itself only resently passed the girlfriend-test. For one reason or another, they tend to remember every glitch, hickup and non-intuitive part of the GUI, while they arent as fascinated as us over every cool detail =)

Hi,

I've been looking for a plugin like this.. :)

I have a couple of questions.. Does it have wifi support and could anyone post a link to the newest version of this awesome plug-in! If it does'nt have wifi support do u need to be connected via active sync to use it?

Thanks..

HI mp8520,
it supports tcp/ip - so U can establish this via wifi or bluetooth (with the right stack protokoll)... active sync is not necessary - you just need to be connected to the network somehow...

I am considering hiding all my other remotes and keyboard for this PDA solution. Any ideas how to get PC power on/off? Wake-on-lan?

I will probably use Sony s-link to control my surround amplifier, and rs-232 to control an lcd-screen, meaning that everything can be powered on/off by a simple menu switch (important for the girl friend factor).

WakeOnLAN is possible, but not enabled in the current skin.
powering off your PC can be done from within MP.
in the future I will probably extend the PocketPC application to send regular packets to, for instance, Girder.
or I can tap into the MP routines to make MP shut down the PC..

but considering the current development rate  ... it won't be very soon..

Would it be more time/work-efficient to consider playing along some general PDA IR-application, meaning that the user gets the "being able to control everything from one box" experience, while avoiding writing all the necessarty code? Running one as a plugin in the other?

In the same way, allowing general messages to Girder, would move all the hassle of interfacing software to another app, meaning that this thing can consentrate on being a great 2-way MP controller with a skinnable GUI that can generate general commands that have to be relayed by other peoples code into PDA IR-signals, or PC events?

regards
Knut

Could you post the non-finished version you have now? So that us running RC4 could test it for you? It would be very cool, since i'm currently testing the best way for remote-controlling my MP! This would be really cool..

Thanks..

For some reason I stop getting emails after a while. Do you have a working plugin for rc4 yet? Also, have you had any luck fixing the database glitches (unknown album) that we discussed a few pages back in the thread?

Also, I was just looking at the lyrics plugin, I'm hoping it will work on id3 files soon, but apparently works with an xml file, long term that might be another item to be able to read with the ppc. First things first though.

Let me know if you get anything to interact with girder, I can at least start playing with that and see what is in my scope to help.
