Hulu Desktop plugin

After several days of trying to make MultiShortcut work reliably, I finally gave up and created my own plugin to load and execute HuluDesktop from MediaPortal.

Attached is the Hulu Desktop plugin. It's a simplified version of MultiShortCut made specific for HuluDesktop. This version is designed for Win/XP and uses the hover_remote.png icon; it probably will not work on Win/7 or Vista if HuluDesktop is installed somewhere other than where XP puts it. The source code is in the attached file HuluPluginSource.zip in case anyone wants to try and fix it for other versions of Windows.

Simply unzip Hulu.zip and copy the Hulu.dll file into the directory named:

C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\plugins\Windows

Then run MediaPortal Configuration. There is no configuration needed other than to choose between the Home or PlugIns menu (default is Home) and to choose between Enabled or Disabled (default is Enabled).

Even if you have more than one version of HuluDesktop installed (which happens whenever you update it to the latest release), the plugin will automatically locate the most recent version and run it. In other words, you can enable automatic updates of HuluDesktop and everything will be OK!

Enjoy.

Dan

I am using this to open XBMC, it opens fine but for some reason Media Portal is acting like it isnt and goes back to homescreen before XBMC opens, great but the problem is that the PC goes to sleep after 10 minutes as it is set to go to sleep when idle on the homescreen... how do you make Media Portal only go back to the homescreen when ive quit XBMC?

Make sure to open your command prompt as "run as administrator".

Admin rights are needed to manipulate files in that directory.

I created a desktop shortcut to "cmd.exe" and then right click "run as administrator"

    Hope that works for you.

I had the same issue with Hulu, I don't know if the solution is the same for XBMC, but here is how it worked for Hulu.

    • The app link (on the desktop or start menu) was a good link, but eventually, it launched another executable.
    • So Multi Shortcut doesn't know that executable 1 launched executable 2 so it thinks executable 1 ended, and restored mediaportal.
    • The way I found the name of executable 2 it is to launch the app, got to task manager, go to the task processes tab, locate my process, right click on it and select 'open file location'
    • This found the exact file that is currently running and I stuck that file location into multishortcut

Worked for Hulu, not sure if it works for XBMC. Let me know!

    Good luck.

I'm running Mediaportal 1.1.3.0 on Windows 7. I just upgraded from an earlier release, in which I had successfully managed to install the Multishortcut plug-in in order to run NeverMissTV from the main MP menu. I'm having trouble setting this up again however.

I've followed the instructions for installing MultiShortcut (v2.3):
    - copied the 2 files to the MP plugins folder
    - copied the language folder to C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal folder
    - renamed the Multishortcut000.dll to NeverMissTV.dll
    - ran DLLFix (as Administrator) - and it was successful.

I can see NeverMissTV in the MP plugins config tool, but when I try to configure it I get this error:

    "Missing file C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\Language\MultiShortcut\strings_en.xml"

I have double-checked, and the strings_en.xml file definitely exists at that folder location.

    Can anyone help?

I had the same error, just be sure to double check your path.

Be sure that you installed your language files in "ProgramData" and not "ProgramFiles". Remember, that "ProgramData" is considered a systemfile and you have to go into Windows Explorer and explicitly uncheck the "Hide Protected Operating System Files" in windows explorer folder options to see "ProgramData".

That fixed it for me. If that is not the issue, then it might be permissions.

    Good Luck,
    Pete

Thanks. You were right - I had the language folder in the wrong location. It's now been moved, I've re-run dllfix and was able to configure NeverMissTV.dll to run NeverMissTV.exe. The problem now is that it's not showing up anywhere in the MP (StreamedMP) menu. I've configured it as "Enabled" and "Listed In Home", but it doesn't show up in either the top-level MP menu or the plug-ins menu.
