mVids - Music Video Database (3 Viewers)

I have been wanting this for ages, looks fantastic.

Couple of points,
1. The Scanner does not seem to like "The" in the artis name, makes it hard for "The Beatles" and "The Rolling Stones", you can onl dream what showed up for "The Who".
2. I use indigo skin and don't seem to get the thumb frames on my selction screen

Other than those (which are only minor) seems to work perfectly out of the box, great job

have mp rel 0.2.3.0
have set up mvids plug in (which i have been waiting for ages for, thanks)
when i run it i get the attached screenshot.
(baically no info from data base, just says AKON and it hangs. i have to close MP to do anything else.
the vids inported ok.

You may encounter other problems. I've commented out the only line that there was an error for, but there may be errors past that part.

Thanks. If I get further errors, I'll just upgrade as it probably isn't worth the hassle getting it going on an old version of MP.

Still no go, so I have upgraded to RC2 and everything is good. And now using TV Server as well just to throw myself in the deep end a bit more...

Im liking the look of this new plugin and I will try it out when Im back home, Im currently on Holiday in Cairns Oz. One question, does this plugin allow for random play of the music vids. I personally have around 700 or so and would love to have it randomly play them etc.

Is this possible?

Thanks. The whole "the" thing should be fixed with the new last.fm grabber. I think it's an allmusic issue as I experienced it as well. As for the skin problem, I'm not sure I understand what you mean? You don't see any thumbs?

0.2.3 has been reported as not working. If run the build I posted a page or two back named mvids_0.2.3.rar and post your MediaPortal.log, I can see what else is wrong and possibly fix it. You can understand, though, that I'm not going to go through a lot to get it working with past versions as they will be obsolete soon.

Also, to any skinners that are planning to skin. I can send you a zipped folder structure with a demo database in case you don't have hundreds of music videos lying around. That way you can skin without worrying about setting it up. Just let me know.

No Thumbs visible at all I'm afraid, though they do seem to have been created when I did the scan. Not a biggy, I'm considering changing from my old faithful Indigo anyhow, but its still pretty popular. Might just be my system of course. I dropped your Monochrome skin file into the Indigo skin folder, so I think I have done that right.

I suppose I should mention that I do get the artist thumbs, I'm talking about the clip thumbs, sorry if that wasn't clear

not a problem i hear you say well not really
but if you use my-tvseries that .dll which is in your pakage will slow the scanner of it to about 1 every 10 secs instead of one every .3 of a sec
you should release if it works with the same one that is release with tv-series

I made it clear in the installation instructions NOT to replace the one you have.

MediaInfo.dll <- If you don't already have this in your Plugins\Windows folder, place it there

That's definitely not a skin issue. Sounds like an ffmpeg issue. Did you get any errors when scanning?

Great to hear. I can say that pretty much every design decision was based on whether or not my wife thought it was pretty enough or easy enough to use, so I figured that would make it much easier to convince everyone elses boss to use it.

On a side note, I've completed the last.fm grabber and rewrote a good portion of the scanning routine. It's about twice as fast now and can now automatically match up about 50% more videos than the previous Allmusic grabber. A scan of 300 videos now only takes about 20 minutes from start to finish. Because of this Style/Tone/Genre view has been replaced by the new "Tag View" which is essentially a combination of the three.

From the research I've done over the past few days, the first tag is generally the Genre. I'm also implementing a tag manager so that you can combine tags like, for example, "hip-hop", "hip hop", and "rap" into one tag. This will make things much cleaner, I believe, and allow you to have much more control over subdividing your Artists by tag. I think it removes a lot of confusion and gives a cleaner look as I never actually used Style or Tone view anyway. It's actually a lot more powerful this way in my opinion. I'm also writing it so that you can automatically add tags based on folder structure and completely ignore the last.fm tags. This will allow a pseudo "Genre" view or "Style" view if that's all you wanted, for example.

The problem with this large change is that everyone's old database will need to be upgraded. I'm also adding a conversion method that will add the videos back to the new database based on the previous order they were in, and copy the playcount, rarting, and score fields over. Doing it like this will ensure you can keep your most recent view and top 100 view in the same order and not lose any information. This will require all videos to be researched on last.fm, though, in order to obtain the needed information for the new database fields. On my system this only took abot 30 minutes total, so no big deal there. Ideally this won't happen again, though.

A question for everyone regarding fan art implementation. Should fan art only be displayed in arists/tag view, or displayed both there and in top 100 and most recent view? It seems to me like including it in top 100 view and most recent view would make scrolling up an down on the videos a bit confusing due to the quickly changing backgrounds when scrolling fast.
