The seeking problem is relative simple. The problem is that MP always performs absolute seeks and this doesn't work very well in MPlayer. If you perform relative seeks it should work better. The problem is that the plugin doesn't know the exact duration while playing a file. This make a transformation of an absolute seek into a relative seek very complicated. I'm still searching for a good solution. Also I'm currently working on a nice new feature, but there are also a lot of problems that have to be fixed too.
You could also specify the demuxer option for a specific extension. The plugin will then use this option only for the given extension.
The last test version which I have posted here, should determine the screen automatically and uses the adapter version. If it doesn't work, please post a log so that I can fix it.
Since the video is embedded in MP and MPlayer doesn't really know the correct size of the window, I think that the problem of the picture quality couldn't be fixed.
