FlexQ: Keen to hear how you got on with this. If it's working I'd like to update the copy in the plug-in repository.

    Hi Mate

I have just come home after a trip, but i just dont understand your plugin, and before i can use it, i need to understand it.

I thought, you may correct me if i am wrong, that your plugin just turned pin 2 - 9 high/low, but when i enter config in your plugin, then i am met with this popup:

    k2-my_power_control.jpg

I might add, that the popup appears when pressing the Add button.

Sorry if this might sound a little stupid, but using print servers and so on, isent that a little "over engeneering"? Or am i totally missing the plot?

THanks for your help so far

    Henrik

Yeah I can understand that it is confusing but it's because it is versatile. :)

    Under the "Physical Devices" tab
You need to enable the local service (Enable Service)
Then connect to the local service (Connect)
Next you need define a physical device connected to the parallel port. (Add)
    a.Give the device a name. e.g. "Lamp"
    b.Enter the port number e.g. 888 for LTP1
    c.Select parallel port
d.Select the parallel port which the device is connected to
e.Trigger just switches the pin on then off again. (not used in most cases)
Click ok to add the device.

You can now select the device and test it.

    Under the "MediaPortal" tab
Note this step can be performed on any MediaPortal computer on the network. but in your case I think you are doing everything on just one computer.
Click add to add a device to the the list of devices inside MediaPortal.
    Select "This Computer" >Next
Now you should be able to select the device from the drop down.
Give it a description if you want and click finish.

You should now see the device in MediaPortal and be able to turn it on and off.

Btw the print server options are in case you don't have a parallel port on your PC. Or if you want to control devices which are remotely connected via network or even over the internet. They also have the advantage that they are always on where as a computer tends to reset the pins on the parallel port when it reboots or when it comes out of standby.

Now tell me did you read the help/about section inside the plug-in? ;-) If you did then I think I need to make it more clear?

    Cheers,
    Rhys

    Hi Mate

Sorry for the late answer, but time is short these days.

I tried, but when I press connect i get this error box up, as linked to before. I have tried to open ports in windows firewall, but without any luck.

The guide was good enough, i just didnt read it - because i am an idiot, but it just isent working yet, and i cant seem to get it right, have any idea ?

EDIT: I have tried to disable win firewall and avast on acces protection, no luck there either.

EDIT2: I have tried to uninstall, but the installer just sends a blank message, where i can press "ok", after that i tried to remove all traces of the plugin and "my power control" and install again, but it gives me an errorcode: 2869.

So right now i cant uninstall (from programs and functions in control panel) or install it again. I dont think your plugin is "win 7 ready" - yet.

Should i forget all about it, or do you want to make it win 7/idiot compliant ?:)

Hmm, yeah I'm keen to get it working. Can you confirm that you have the the power control system service installed? and is it started?

    Well, thats the problem.

I thought it was installed, but it was not running.
1: Tried to uninstall - but failed when trying
    2: removed it manually
3: installing it again, failing now every time i trying to install the app again.

What causes "errorcode: 2869", and why does i pop up when trying to install ?

Where do the program put its files, i am not able to install anymore, i think it might be related to the files i havent been deleting yet.

If the program is no longer showing in add/remove programs try deleting this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PowerControl

Then re-install, btw are you running the installer as administrator? When I get a minute I'll try it on windows vista/7
