I've finally nailed why I can't playback VIDEO_TS movies properly in My Videos after importing them using the nfo importer and using nfo files exported from MovPicNFO. This also affects stacked movies (moviename cd1.avi, moviename cd2.avi). The nfo files exported by MovPicNFO has issues too, but I figure the import behavior should be easy enough to fix and solve these issues, once and for all.

Problem: When an NFO file that is to be used for the import of a movie into My Videos lack a path to the video file included, My Videos chooses poorly, and the movie won't playback as expected.

Steps to reproduce including screens below:

    VIDEO_TS FOLDER
    File structure:

    Movie folder\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS_IFO, VIDEO_TS_VOB, VIDEO_TS.NFO

    1. Choose a movie in Moving Pictures that is a DVD rip (VIDEO_TS folder copied to HDD)
    2. Look at the "File(s)" field in Moving Pictures' Movie Manager tab, it should look like this (VIDEO_TS.IFO):

    movingpictures_selected_file.png

    3. In MovPicNFO, browse to the movie in the MovingPictures.dat and export an NFO file from it. (result attached as "Exported_from_MovPicInfo.txt", renamed to be allowed to be uploaded, rename it to .nfo). Notice that no path is included in the nfo file. The NFO file will appear in this location: "Movie folder\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.NFO"

    4. In My Videos, import the directory with this setting marked:

    my_videos_importer-settings.png

    5. Scan the directory, and when it's finished, check the Editor/Files tab for this result (VIDEO_TS.VOB):

    my_videos_selected_file.png
Playing this back in My Videos will result in either the DVD menu or a short Studio logo, then no movie. :(

    6. Click the Add button in the Files tab and select the correct file, VIDEO_TS.IFO and remove the VIDEO_TS.VOB.

    7. Click the Title tab, and notice that the imported movie title is gone, and instead, you have VIDEO_TS:

    my_videos_title_bug.png

    8. Rename the title and click Save

    9. My Videos will now export another NFO file (result attached as "Exported_from_My_Videos.txt", renamed to be allowed to be uploaded, rename it to .nfo). Notice that a COMPLETE path is now included in the nfo file. The NFO file will appear in this location: "Movie folder\Movie title.nfo"

    STACKED FILES
    File structure:

    Ponyo\Ponyo cd1.mkv, Ponyo cd2.mkv, Ponyo cd1.nfo

    1. Choose a movie in Moving Pictures that has stacked files (movie cd1.avi, movie cd2.avi)
    2. Look at the "File(s)" field in Moving Pictures' Movie Manager tab, it should look like this (movie cd1.mkv, movie cd2, mkv):

    stacked_movingpictures_selected_file.png

    3. In MovPicNFO, browse to the movie in the MovingPictures.dat and export an NFO file from it. (result attached as "Ponyo cd1(exported from movpicinfo).txt", renamed to be allowed to be uploaded, rename it to .nfo). Notice that no path is included in the nfo file.

    4. In My Videos, import the directory with this setting marked:

    my_videos_importer-settings.png

    5. Scan the directory, and when it's finished, check the Editor/Files tab for this result (movie cd2.mkv):

    stacked_my_videos_selected_file.png

Playing this back in My Videos will result no question which of the stacked files to playback, but the movie will start half way in the middle. :(

    6. Click the Add button in the Files tab and add "movie cd1.mkv". Notice that there is no button for ordering the files, and the "movie cd2.mkv" will be above "movie cd1.mkv". Remove "movie cd2.mkv" and add it again to get the correct playback order.

    7. Click the Title tab, and notice that the imported movie title is gone, and instead, you have "Movie cd1":

    8. Rename the title and click Save

    9. My Videos will now export another NFO file (result attached as "Ponyo(exported from my videos).txt", renamed to be allowed to be uploaded, rename it to .nfo). Notice that a COMPLETE path is now included in the nfo file.

Sure, the MovPicNFO tool could just include the path into the NFO file, but what if the movie file is moved to a different location?

Edit: Sorry for using thumbnails for the small pictures. They are can be clicked though.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean? My point is that it's bad to write the full path to a file into an nfo file, the NFO file should just be in the root of the correct video file so the importer/scraper sees it and uses the info inside, and if any path at all should exist, it should ONLY be the file needed to start the playback correctly. Like VIDEO_TS.IFO, or film cd1.*, film cd2.*

Does that installer have some sort of fix to this, or what?

for my use, file name / nfo / folder have the same name. ...

Do you have any VIDEO_TS movies to test, or stacked files (cd 1, cd 2)? The NFO importer works perfectly fine for single movie files, like moviename.mkv with a moviename.nfo file in the same folder. The bug only applies to VIDEO_TS folders and/or stacked files.

I renamed the attached nfo files only to clarify how they were created, in the real situation, they match the file name that's imported into Moving Pictures, not the movie title, like in My Videos.

Moving PicturesNFO name the nfo like this (example video files, "Ponyo cd1.mkv, Ponyo cd2.mkv"): "Ponyo cd1.nfo"

My Videos name the nfo like this (example video files, "Ponyo cd1.mkv, Ponyo cd2.mkv"): "Ponyo.nfo"

    yes, botjh work fine ...

Are you testing NFO files created with MovPicNFO, or with another tool?

    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...Portal/1_Videos/Using_nfo_files?highlight=nfo

As the IMDB+ scraper works perfectly for me in Moving Pictures (no Swedish scraper exists for My Videos), I prefer to use the nfo files created by MovPicNFO. Do you suggest I should somehow edit all of them to include a file path, or are you using a special build of MediaPortal that fixes the problems that I describe in my original post? Sorry, I'm not sure that you've followed my steps to reproduce or not?

    http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_...Portal/1_Videos/Using_nfo_files?highlight=nfo
and my nfo don't contain path of the file.

Mine doesn't include a path until I've completed point #8 in my original post, i.e. clicking Save in My Videos.

i don't use MovPicNFO, bur ofme NFO is NFO

    "Movie folder\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.NFO"
first the nfo for DVD folder, will be at the root, before VIDEO folder
    DVDFOLDERNAME\DVDFOLDERNAME.NFO

and for stacked, the nfo name will don't contain the stack part
    Ponyo CD1.mkv
    Ponyo CD2.mkv
    Ponyo.nfo
and if you want have fanart working in shareview, the folder of this movie should be the same as the file name "Ponyo" without stack

Then please, you should not comment and say that "everything is fine here", as you're not using the same setup as described. I gave detailed steps for a reason, not following them is like saying "there are no bugs, because it's working fine in one compatible computer".

    "Movie folder\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.NFO"
first the nfo for DVD folder, will be at the root, before VIDEO folder
    DVDFOLDERNAME\DVDFOLDERNAME.NFO

While I agree that this NFO placement isn't optimal, My Videos still collect all info on Plot summary etc just fine from the nfo file, but picks the wrong extension for playback of VIDEO_TS movies. VOB instead of IFO. That's one of the major points of this thread.

and for stacked, the nfo name will don't contain the stack part
    Ponyo CD1.mkv
    Ponyo CD2.mkv
    Ponyo.nfo

This is even weirder, why is it that My Videos selects Ponyo CD2.mkv as the ONLY file to import when the NFO file is called Ponyo cd1.nfo? Clearly a bug. So why insist that there's nothing wrong. We need @Deda to explain why.

and if you want have fanart working in shareview, the folder of this movie should be the same as the file name "Ponyo" without stack

This would be no issue if my suggestion to use fanart.jpg along with folder.jpg could be implemented in MediaPortal. The dev responsible for FanArtHandler has abandoned MediaPortal, so why insist on hanging on to it? But hey, it works for "most users", so it's not broken. This is starting to get on my nerves. I'm sure you're only trying to help, so please do so by following the logic in my first post.
