    Blu-ray compatibility lists (tourettes)

I'll be creating a separate wiki page for the user results. Everyone should be having a read / write access to it - I cannot keep such monster up to date. Also as soon as I receive some problematic blu-ray disk (or partial copy) I'll be moving it out of the user compatibility list and place it under my own compatibility table.

I have received on sample (Earth). Thanks for Wo0zy!

Ok, here's the compatibility list that you guys should be filling up (and keep up to date as much as possible when a new version of the installer is released). I have filled in matpe's results as an example - others should now fill their results in. Unfortunately I cannot do / keep the wiki up to date, it would require just too much time and that time is directly away from fixing the found issues.

Seems like mp crash when i try to skip commersials/play with remote before menu.

Does this happen with all BDs?

Dont understand why i get avc / dts ma problems, anyone knows? (I using ATI 5450, if i have to change to nvidia, can anyone recommend a fanless/VERY silent nvidia?

What audio decoder you are using? Only LAV audio decoder is 100% compatible with all audio formats the Blu-ray can have (in future some other audio decoders could receive more supported formats).

Will add more movies to this post later today

Could you provide the resuls in: MediaPortal Wiki - MediaPortal Wiki)

Also if possible provide some of those failing BDs as samples (Providing a Sample Blu-ray Content - MediaPortal Wiki)

    Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Menu- No (Causes black screen. MP still responding so can stop playback OK and return to MyVideos)
Title- OK (only one title to choose from).
    Notes.

Please upload a sample (if possible). Sounds like a real bug.

    Batman Begins
Menu- No (Playback begins then returns to Myvideos before menu loads)
Title- OK (only one title to choose from).
    Notes.
Playback locks up if I attempt to seek/ skip. This is a VC-1 disc using Arcsoft decoder. Can provide logs if required.

If using LAV video decoder wont help -> provide a sample if possible.

    Bolt
    Menu- No (see notes)
Title- OK (10 to choose from but first title is correct.)
    Notes.
Language selection menu works (the menu prior to the 12 or so Disney trailers) but obviously the movie menu doesn't. Also, unable to skip through the trailers. It makes this movie a LONG test :). When you finally reach the movie menu MP locks up with a black screen (reported as "Not Responding" in task manager) and I had to force close.

Could be a BD-J title (with initial menus in HDVM). If possible a sample would be nice to have.

    District 9
Menu- No (returns you straight to "select play mode" menu)
Title- OK (6 to choose from but first title is correct.)
    Notes.

Probably a BD-J - please provide info in wiki (same for other movies)

    Gladiator
Menu- No (Plays opening "Universal Studios" video then returns to MyVideos)
Title- OK (8 to choose from. See notes).[/quote]

    BD-J?

There are 8 titles to choose from as follows
    Title: #0 - chapters: 2, duration: 06:02:56
    Title: #1 - chapters: 2, duration: 06:02:51
    Title: #2 - chapters: 2, duration: 06:02:51
    Title: #3 - chapters: 2, duration: 02:50:56
    Title: #4 - chapters: 29, duration: 02:50:56
    Title: #5 - chapters: 29, duration: 02:34:58
    Title: #6 - chapters: 2, duration: 02:34:58
    Title: #7 - chapters: 76, duration: 01:14_48

I've never actually watched this disc (was bought for me and I've not got around to it). It seems that Title #5 is the movie and Title #4 is the extended cut. The rest are looping animations/ background videos. I appreciate there's probably not much that can be done about this sort of thing but it could confuse some people (maybe even a technical users wife :)).
Once you select the correct title the movie plays perfectly.

6 hour clips are most likely menu backgrounds. 2 hour clips are probably alternate versions of the movie. Unfortunately there
is no way to tell what they are (BD-J would draw the menu and tell what they are...). Currently I have no solution for giving any more information about the titles. And there probably isn't until there is BD-J support available in libbluray.

    Inception
Menu- No (Returns you straight to "select play mode" menu)
Title- OK (6 to choose from. The first two have durations of 03:10:22. The second two have duration of 02:28:07 so extended version is primary choice I think. Final two are 45mins and obvious extras)
    Notes.
This is another VC-1 disc and has the same issues when skipping as "Batman Begins". Again, this is using the Arcsoft decoder.

    BD-J?

    Inglorious B****ds
Menu- No (Returns you straight to "select play mode" menu)
Title- OK (10 to choose from. See notes)
    Notes.
Another tough call as to which title is correct. Basically a choice of 3. I made the point in the "Gladiator" notes section but happy to provide more details if there's a chance that the .mpls selection logic can be improved. Again, once you select the correct title the movie plays perfectly.

    BD-J?

    Iron Man
Menu- No ("Paramount Studios" opening video plays, language selection menu works then you are returned to MyVideo)
Title- OK (2 to choose from. First title is obvious choice).
    Notes.

    BD-J?

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Menu- No (copyright warning then black screen. MP still responding so pressing stop works).
Title- OK (Only a single title to choose).
    Notes.
Another VC-1 movie so same chapter selection/ skip issue with Arcsoft decoder as other VC-1 movies.

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
As per "Fellowship of the Ring"

Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
As per "Fellowship of the Ring"
    Notes.
All three LotR's movies are from the original BD boxset release.

Samples would be nice to have. Or even full BD boxset (I have had that extendend DVD box for years in my collection, collecting dust as I haven't had time to watchit...) :)

    Sherlock Holmes
Menu- No ("Warner Brothers" video plays then you are returned to MyVideos)
Title- OK (4 titles to choose from. First is directors commentry. Second is the normal movie)
    Notes.
    Another VC-1 movie.

    BD-J probably.

    Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Menu- No (Returns you straight to "select play mode" menu)
Title - OK (Only a single title to choose).
    Notes.

    BD-J?

    Tron: Legacy
Menu- No (Unable to play index.bdmv message)
Title- OK (Only a single title to choose).
    Notes.

BD-J? But could be a bug that causes the playback to fail. If this is not a BD-J based disk then a sample would be nice to have.

    1. Changing the VC-1 decoder from Arcsoft to LAV Video seems to fix the seek/skip issues. Haven't tried any others yet.

It is highly recommended to do the testing by using LAV audio & video decoders only. There might be some bugs in graph rebuilding etc. that cause some codecs to panic. We get the most reliable results when all people are using the same codecs. At least when reporting an issue the should be first verified with LAV audio and video decoders in use.

    2. No forced subtitles (either manual selectable or automatic). I guess this feature will be added in a future release?

Support coming at someday :) I guess following three options would be enough?

    1) no subtitles
    2) only forced subtitles
    3) all subtitles

    3. No way to have full subtitles default to off. Again I hope this option will be added over time.

Should be added later on. Currently to minor to be though about (unless Manfred has already code ready :p)

    4. I do understand that the lack of menu success is down to there being no BD-J support but I posted the results because the behaviour can vary from disc to disc. Would probably be good if this could be standardised in time.

Can you please describe which information you need exactly e.g. which logs, which tests we should do and so on...

Does menu work (if disk is not BD-J based). If menu doesn't work then a sample would be good to have. And result should be provided to: MediaPortal Wiki - MediaPortal Wiki) - with a note in this thread what movies were added.

At this point logs are quite useless to be honest, many of the issues are quite deep rooted and they aren't visible in the logs. There are some extra logging I can turn locally on, but in many cases the debugger is the only help / friend when trying to sort out the playback issues.

    Hi tourettes,

    Thanks for all the feedback.:)

All of the VC-1 issues I reported are fixed by using LAV Video. I could have sworn I read somewhere that you recommended using LAV Video for AVC decoding and Arcsoft for VC-1. My mistake m8. Sorry.

I'll update my post with the BD-J info ASAP and then add to the wiki!

I'll also re-test "Alice" and "Bolt". If they turn out to be BD-J (which I think they are) would you still like samples?

    Cheers,

    Mick.
