Network Remote Control (1 Viewer)

Hey all,

I have my system network to my main computer, is there a way to control mediaportal on my HTPC from my networked computer?
Instead of having to use the controller to the HTPC?

The Intelliremote application might do this (I am not sure, it is quite versatile and I know it has a network webserver control function).

It isn't freeware, but is quite cheap and comes with a free 30 day trial.

I know of a few other options that could work, depending on what you are trying to do and how much effort to put into it.

You could also run an Eventghost with the web server plugin and make a webpage to have whatever functions you want to control (could use images and make a remote layout, etc). Although it would take a little bit to figure out how to make Eventghost do what you want, it seems the most straightforward.

iPimp plugin using the Yatse application can probably do what you want, but it is designed for use by a touchscreen computer/tablet.

Also I think the computer side of the Touch IR+ IOS app would work. I use it to control MediaPortal and many other aspects of my HTPC with an ipod touch and ipad. I read in the most recent release notes that it is usable even without and IOS device using some "remote control" option or something.

I would suggest Eventghost, the learning curve isn't bad and it should do what you want. The other two options really could be made to work, but Eventghost is more straightforward.

I could use Computer A to control whats on the the tv using Computer B with mediaportal on it?

Doh, apparently Touch IR cannot be used in that way yet. When I glanced at the release notes, I thought that is what it meant, but since you inquired I looked into it. That capability is listed as upcoming feature, but I misunderstood what the author meant with "PC remote feature," in the current release.

If a future release does indeed add that functionality, it should be a nice solution but is apparently not an option for the time being.

I'm not sure if intelliremote can do that (haven't tried it in years), but the iPimp plugin+Yatse should and I know Eventghost can since I have used it to control one computer with another.

Just FYI, the current version of Touch IR already allows you to control EventGhost on one computer from Touch IR Server running on a different computer, or from an iOS device, so that works today. You provide the IP address of the computer running EventGhost, and the iOS device connects directly to it, as does the "PC Remotes" feature of Touch IR Server. The change in the next version will just let you control the other features of Touch IR Server itself (e.g. IR transmission via USB-UIRT and AutoHotKey) from Touch IR Server running on a different PC using the PC Remote feature. For EventGhost control, you just need to install the Touch IR EventGhost plugin on your EventGhost computer (plugin comes with the Touch IR Server install).

BTW, the "Remote Control" feature of Touch IR Server just allows you to use your remote control activities (screens) as stand-alone remote controls from your Windows desktop. So once you create an activity it is automatically available to both your iOS device and locally on your PC. (Or just on your PC if you don't have an iOS device.) There is no cost for Touch IR Server or for using the "PC Remotes" in Windows.
