Should there be a log entry in DVBSub.log when Mediaportal is started? As I previously posted, there isn't.

Mediaportal xml looks ok. DVBSub.log should contain a at least following string when the mytv is used, otherwise it means that the subtitle filter wasn't even loaded.

Umm, I need to confirm this:

Is TVE required to get this work or should it work without it? :)

    Still no subs :|

I don't understand what I am doing wrong.

    So far I have done:

    - fresh clean install of RC2 version of MediaPortal
    - downloaded this: http://day2.no-ip.org/TsReader_DVBSub2_v6.zip
    - did what instructions tells at the first page of this thread
    - downloaded & installed SVN 15813
    - unregistered TsReader.ax & DVBSub2.ax I downloaded earlier
    - registered TsReader.ax & DVBSub2.ax
    - modified MediaPortal.xml located at c:\ProgramData\Team Mediaportal\Mediaporta\
    - created c:\useTsReader.txt

Still no subs with YLE channels :-(

Edit: there's one thing I'm not sure about. I have Vista Ultimate 32 bit and I downloaded Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) as said in first post. After I've downloaded installer and ran it from my HDD it starts to install and then comes "configuring windows installer" and there's status bar increasing. After the status bar has finished, the installer just goes away without saying if the installation was compeleted or not. So I'm not sure if I have C++ Package correctly installed. Any idea how to check this?

I'm not sure if the Visual C++ 2005 update is needed on Vista, sorry. Could you post the Mediaportal and DVBSub log files?

Sure I can. Just tell me where I can find those logs? I looked under MediaPortal's folder and found another folder called "log", but it only included files called "dvb.log" and "vmr9.log".

    1) C:\DVBSub2.log
    2) MediaPortal install directory \Logs\MediaPortal.log

    Okay, here is my DVBSub2.log
    Code:
    15-09-2007 21:31:42 DllMain - called
    15-09-2007 21:31:42 DllRegisterServer - called
    15-09-2007 21:31:42 AMovieDllRegisterServer2 returned 0
    15-09-2007 21:31:44 DllMain - called
    16-09-2007 18:51:03 DllMain - called

    16-09-2007 18:51:26 DllMain - called

MediaPortal.log seems quite long. Any particular part you want to see in there? I searched for dvbsub* but I found nothing on that log.

In case you are wondering why this is the case:
Its because the teletext and bitmap subtitles are stored as streams in the original transport stream separate from the video/audio. The old 'engine' doesnt support recording/timeshifting in transport stream format, so the subtitle information is lost.

If we wanted to add support to the old engine we would either have to add .ts recording or store subtitles in some other way.

    It should have something like:

    2007-09-17 19:58:08.546875 [Info.][MPMain]: TSReaderPlayer:add TsReader to graph

btw. are you using tve3(tv engine 3)? as it's required for the subtitle support.

I had a recent problem with VISTA.

Installed RC2 and the default folder of

    C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal

was used which was different to the one used for RC1.

Then installed an SVN on the 15th and the above folder changed to

    C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal again.

Had me scratching my head for a while as to why the subs were not working, had to chase down which was the actual folder MP was using with which version and SVN.!!!

MP RC2+SVN on VISTA seems to be using both directories atm which is a nightmare, still haven't got my KB working correctly yet which is another effect.

Okay, I think my problem is solved. I wasn't using tve3 because I didn't know it was required. I'm trying to install it and see what happens.
