If you set each episode individually as watched you're fine. If you set a season or a whole series as watched and add another episode to that to that series/season it will be marked as watched as well.

ie: Mythbusters is on season 8, episode 10. Tag seasons 1 to 7 as wtached. Individually tag episodes in Specials and season 8. This will allow you to still add episodes in Special and season 8 and still have them flagged as unwatched.

Thanks for the info. I don't understand what the mechanism is underneath though, and I would like to.

What I did was, "set all watched" at the *series* level, because for some I knew that I had watched all episodes up to the current airing point.

To repair this, I can just mark the remaining episodes in the last season unwatched, right? (Or is it worse than that?)

What happens when a new season is published in epguides or wherever, is that also going to take the 'watched' status because I originally did it at the series level?

I guess what I am asking is, if I toggle something on at a particular level (series, season) , does going down a level into the hierarchy and toggling watched OFF, work the way I expect? And, does toggling watched just operate on existing episodes / seasons in the database, or does it continue to operate on future imports? (That no meta data has been downloaded for yet).

And, either way it sounds like what I need to be doing may be actually marking more individual episodes watched manually.

Is there a remote shortcut key that I can map to do this without using the context menu? I'm hoping for one keypress/remote button, then "OK" to confirm sort of thing?

thanks guys

No. That will on tag the episodes you manually tag unwatched. Any new episodes or seasons added will still be flagged watched.

See my previous post and follow it.

Just to clear up a few things here:

When you select 'Mark All as Watched', every episode in your local database for that node (series/season) will be marked as watched. Now this can contain episodes that have not aired yet as the online database is populated with those episodes as well. You can toggle 'Show local episodes only' and then mark individual episodes as unwatched.

If your setup not to 'Download episode for whole series' then this wont be a problem.

Thanks guys, I think I have a better understanding now.

Is there a way to make "mark watched" a single remote keypress?

I use 2 thumbs myself, one to control the remote control button to pop up the menu, and the other to press the digit that corresponds to the "Toggle watched status" option. The focus then automatically switches to the next unwatched episode, so you can do this really quick in sequence for a lot of episodes.

Skipping entire seasons is fine as well, presuming you watched all the episodes already.

Configuring MP-TVSeries to only grab the episode information that is available is an easy option as well. You can then mark entire shows and seasons as watched, but the moment a new episode is downloaded it shows unwatched because no database entry was flagged as watched for that.
