There really aren't any settings as such with the codecs I use.
I have set the PowerDVD codecs to use hardware acceleration and this is listed under the codec settings in MP Config > Codecs. For the Win7 MS-DVD codec I haven't seen any settings for this at all.
I use LAV Audio codec on everything and that is it.
In fact, on both my clients I have just gone back to using the MS DVD codec on both h.264 and MPEG as it gave smoother results.
