yeah, i'll upload nonafo source these days
Yeah, I see what you mean. Even though I still stand by what I said, better icons (as you already mentioned) will make this less of an issue.mofux said:it's been a hard design decision to do it this way, but believe me, it would look crappy if there was text under each button. and after some time using the skin you will quickly learn where to select what- The distance between the icons and the explanatory text on top makes new users have to look around to verify what they are selecting.![]()
Cool.mofux said:not a bad idea... i'll give it a try- The current way of hilighting the selected item is the same color as the nonselected items, and the ball in the middle hides a large part of the icon. I.e. your covering up the item the user is sure to look at. Perhaps removing the ball and fading the circle around the nonselected items would be enough?
So if I want to test out other icons on my system, it's just a question of replacing the existing ones in your skin directory?mofux said:yeah, the new icons are a step back from the older nonafo releases, and i'm sorry for that. i haven't created them on my own (i'm a really bad icon creator) and introduced them because i needed to make the process of autogenerating the homescreen more easy. in the previous version there was an image for selected / unselected state for EACH button. you can imagine what a hard work it would be for users to set it up correctly or create new icons/iconsets. but hey - if anyone has cool iconsets to offer i'd like to have a look on them!- Some of the icons are hard to associate with their target. For instance, you've got that cool retro TV on the TV screen, yet you have a closeup of a plain, black remote on the home screen. Use that TV as much as possible! The radio icon is so close up that it's hard to tell what it is.
But it seems to work well enough in Project Mayhem III.mofux said:yeah, i know about this one. unforunately i can't do anything against it without disturbing the 4 day forecast (and i really like it as it is now)...- The background on the weather screen seems to be optimized for the 4 day forecast. The dark boxes look out of place if you view just a single day.
I do. Hopefully we get some more flexibility in the engine. The current engine seems to focus on the type of content (music, video...) instead of context (music album, radio...). Context is more important in HTPC-type apps IMHO. Btw, do you do some kind of alpha-blending between the album cover and CD case pictures? All my album art seems to display some faint transparency on top of the CD case, especially the dark pictures.mofux said:that's also a problem with the skinning engine. radio seems to use the "music overlay" and that's the one with the cd-case. so if i change it to have no cd-case also music wouldn't have it- When listening to radio, the channel logo is displayed on top of a CD case, as if it was a normal music track. Just displaying the logo would make more senseyou see the problem?
An oversight in the skinning engine then. Now, how do we get someone to fix this...?mofux said:as far as i know this can't be changed by a skinner - the keyboard should look the same in other skins as well...- The on-screen keyboard still has the BlueTwo look.
You're giving me the old 'this behavior is by design' routine, eh?mofux said:the "Play CD" button is a placeholder until we have the functionality to link an action for playing a CD... so this behaviour is planned and not a bug...- Selecting 'Play CD' on the music screen has the same effect as selecting 'Shares'. Selecting 'Play CD' on the 'Shares' screen *does* start playing the CD. Btw, something like 'Library' seems more natural a term than 'Shares' here.
Weird. How can the list being in a state where you only see icons but no texts (the text being the main benefit of a list view) be default behavior? IMHO, you fade texts too much when they do not have the focus. The small text sizes used, combined with low contrast makes things hard to read.mofux said:can't do anything against that as well - limitation of the skinning engine...- The List view for music, videos etc does not display a text for each item when the focus is on the command list on the left. Also, for consistency, shouldn't the 'hilight box' around the selected list item be rounded at one end to match the selection style when using the Big Icon List?
about the round selection style... i don't think it would look that good (there are several lines sometimes it would look confusing with too many round endings)
It happens whenever selecting a folder in the top row, when exploring shares.mofux said:in what view / section of mediaportal does this happen? but i think i can't do anything against this as well- When using the Big Icons view, the selected folder icon is clipped at the top.![]()
Sure, I've deciphered them.mofux said:hmm, yeah, i tried this... but togglebuttons doesn't seem to have the #selectedbutton property - so i can't display thier text in a label- The small, simple icons used on the TV screen (i.e. the one with the retro TV) are not easily understood just by looking on them. The name of the selected command just above the icons or...something... might help.
but it's the same as on the homescreen - you will get used to it and if you have a closer look they will make sense to you, hehe![]()
