after alot of learning today (writing some tests at university next week) i found some time to clean up the tv-home even more and to create icons for the most-needed functions. the icons on the icon-panel mean (left to right)
    channels - tv on/off - timeshift on/off - record - groups

the progressbar also has a background now, description text got a little bit smaller in size so that even big info's fit on it.
i think it looks very clean now and i won't change alot on that (well, i'll try to have a code-change in mytv plugin so that the "coming next" series can be showed in that screen.

    hi mofux,

I really like your skin very much. I am happy that along with 50% MCE-clones and 50% black/metal skins a really new style comes up ... ( I also like the old fashioned TV - mega old style and ultra modern software - that fits very good!)

    my question:
The "myTV home" is that what normally has a rather big TV picture to the right side and a list of menu points to the left side (TV guide, record now .... teletext) - 10 items. Your TV home has 1 point to the left (back) and 5 icons under the TV picture (channels ... groups).

    1. that menu differs completely from all of the other skins. there is no "teletext" and no "search". I like that very much. I would be ok with 3 items:"guide - scheduled- recorded". All of the other items I never use. But probably other users have other ideas ... What is your "master plan" regarding the myTV home menu structure?

    2. a part of the menu you now have to the left (back) and the other part under the picture (channels ... groups). In my opinion that is "waste of place". nearly the complete left bar is empty. Even though I like the minimalistic style of the small icons to the right I would prefer to have everything to the left (maybe using the small icons) and a bigger old fashioned TV to the right. Under the TV there could be the show description, the channel logo and so on.

    3. will this skin be availabe with 0.1.3??? (probably no ...)

    thanks+regards

for those of you that aren't reading post older than 2 days, here again: i moved the buttons from mytv home menu to an new additional screen (requires plugin), screenshot attached again.

first, i think this is what it makes look so clean. second - i already said that i'm trying to have a code change to the mytv section in cvs that there is a possiblity to show the the "up next" programm description, which should be displayed where the channel-thumbnail now is.

    3. will this skin be availabe with 0.1.3??? (probably no ... )
no, for sure it won't because i had to force the mp-team to have some code-changes to the core to get the weatheroverlay plugin running. also the plugin structure changed somehow, so that the plugins for the additional screens won't work (not sure 100%)

to make it even more clear why i choose this design for the tv-home section i've done a comparison. i think both screens have the same work to do, so they should look close to each other!

Looking good, though, while comparing the two images, the jewel case border looks slightly anachronistic. Maybe you should experiment with LP covers?
I'll very busy next month, but if afterwards no one else has picked up the overscan issue, send me a PM, I'd like to start working a little bit on skinning. (not experienced, but was looking for a reason to start for some time now)

[plugging]As a small aside, this topic lead me thinking about the clock in skins (look here in our public development list). I'm interested in your opinion.[/plugging]

lol, believe it or not, i really thought about LP-covers, but that would need a rewrite of the now playing screen (alpha-mask needs to be set on the images to make them look rounded. haha :)
but that's a little bit unreal i think...

i can't imagine to have talked to you about overlaying, or did you have another nick?

i'd be interested to have some kind of analog clock implemented, so do some work on it (i think the picture shown is only a mockup, isn't it?)

i'm not giving out the skin for porting now as there are minor changes in all parts here and there all the time, so it wouldn't make sense.

My first reflex would be to not believe it.

you didn't (afaik), I just made up the clock idea inspired by your weather overlay work.

It's not even a mock-up, it's just picked of the net to support those people who don't remember how analogue clocks look

That's OK with me. Consider it a standing offer to be used when you finished the non-overscan, if you like.

Can you maybe elaborate a little bit on the background/structure of the weather overlay you created and whether it would be manageable for a starting skinner to port that concept to a clock as I propose? (or PM me on that, to keep this topic clean)
