    I do understand you. Do you have any suggestions?

    No, no good suggestions at least, yet ;). What I think might work is simply having alternating background colors for the <li id="post-X"> elements (e.g. two different shades of lightgray or alternating between lightgray and lightblue, something in that area; the current background colour of the thread page isn't white, so there is some room to play with), however, just doing that would look not very good without some further alterations.

    Visibly connecting the post container with the user info container might solve this 'feeling' as well, but would also not look good.

    I have to play around with it a little bit myself, to come up with something sensible.

    Hm, looks better than I thought it would, but it kind of reduces the... uhm, 'neatness' and 'delicacy' of the user-info container, imho :D.

    Btw. I just noticed an odd issue: whenever I am scrolled to almost the top or bottom of the page, the arrow on the right side of the user-info container suddenly gets a thicker stroke:

    I think it would help if the post container is at least as high as the user info container. You don't expect the post below it anymore, as there's simply no white space there anymore.

    If i have to choose between that mockup you posted and the current design, then its the mockup - without a doubt.

    Currently the forum design looks way too cluttered with all these seperated elements. Your alternative version gets things into shape and relation to each other again.

    But as you know - I like the inital white version the most. :D

    Hmm, how about this one?

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2309215/mepoforum3.png

    Changed/Used CSS:
    Code:
    .primaryContent{ background:none; padding:10px; }
    .message { padding:10px; }
    .message:nth-child(even) { background:#f6f9fc; }
    .message.messageInfo {}

    // edit: oh, made an error, only the even posts have the correct padding in the screenshot, but you get the idea

    Spooky that looks pretty nice! :)
    but i am not sure if users who don't like the white will be much happier with this. :(

    But it's not white, it's #FCFCFF / 252,252,255 :D.

    One problem I have with my version: it decreases the colour contrast between the background and the user-info container on the even posts, due to the ligh gray/blueish background of the parent container and the only slightly darker background of the user-info container. Although you could also make the user-info container background a wee bit darker, to increase contrast again.
