Actually just got a new setup and I know I have blown filmerit's trumpet for a long time as to fixing filter errors, but just found out it does drag and drop registering as well, make sure any filters that you want to register are not compressed, so extract to somewhere you can find them and where they will not be deleted :)

"dxva.rar" without the quotes are the last PDVD9 Ultimate working filters.

    Found them, thanks!

Strangely the rar file contains some registry files that have reference to MediaPortal in them. I wonder if I should merge those with my registry... any ideas?

You might also want to type "hd pack" (without the quotes) into Google too....

To be honest, I think Cyberlink are shooting themselves in the foot with this restriction.

The people most interested in the PowerDVD retail versions are HTPC enthusiasts, and quite often (like MP users) the interest is as much for the codecs as for the player. Now that the H.264 and VC-1 codecs are unavailable outside of powerDVD it's removing a big reason for buying/upgrading. I have a full version of PDVD7 and I was think of upgrading to 8/9, but there's no point now (since I don't have a Blu-ray drive in the HTPC).

Maybe Cyberlink should think about selling a codec pack to end users ? :)

Well, are there any real alternatives?
InterVideo WinDVD seems to be forgotten.... PureVideo is obsolete....

Registry entries relate to enabling dxva outside of MP and are not required, these should always be enabled for hardware acceleration in the MP config directshow control settings.

I'm even worse than Tony as, because I have always had the latest boxed versions brought for me as gifts, as all my friends\family know I'm geeky and already put down a hint for Windows 7 for x-mas :D

I agree, would be nice if Cyberlink did a htpc codec pack, i'm sure it would do well at the right price.

I registered the 3 filters that came in DXVA.rar and unfortunately they didn't just work if I placed them in my system32 folder or elsewhere. It seems they rely on a bunch of Cyberlink DLLs since they only worked when I dropped them in my PowerDVD 8 decoder install (also a torrent package that came with an installer that deploys several DLLs).

So I guess one needs PowerDVD 9 installed to get these stand-alone filters to work. I only have PowerDVD 7 installed since I need HD-DVD support.

Arcsoft's TMT3 is not only far superior (performance, looks, usability, stability) to PDVD it also still does support HD-DVD in its latest release. With that stupid decision of cyberlink I feel Arcsoft is worth another recommendation.

For PDVD7, try downloading the 2008-12-08 PowerDVD 7.3 update - DVD Player Software - CyberLink PowerDVD ? #1 Playback Software for DVDs and Blu-ray Discs - then use something like Universal Extractor | LegRoom.net to unpack the archive. You should end up with a set of folders - copy the contents of the 'VideoFilter' folder to C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\VideoFilter to update the codecs (after making a backup copy of the original, just in case). If you have problems afterwards, try re-registering the .ax files.

    Hi rtv,

Followed up your advice and got hold of a copy of Arcsoft Total Media Theatre Platinum 3.0.0.38.
Installation went like a piece of cake... after the reboot everything seemed to be in order.

However, when I try to select the TMT-codec in MPConfig, it doesn't get listed...
Should I be doing something else, like registering the codec? I have never had to do this for ffdshow and PVDV8 although I think in those cases I installed the software before MP was installed...

    Thanks for your help.

I don't think TMT is giving out any codec that can be used by 3rd party. They just offer an alternative to PowerDVD to play BR discs. (the reason I tell you that is that I also downloaded it and tried it).

In fact you can see a bunch of .ax files in their installation folders but these .ax cannot be registered with the system, and I couln't find one that would look like it's a video decoder.
