I have mentioned a problem with the muting/unmuting of sound devices during the testing of Scythe42 Area 51 build.

The source of the problem could be that I'm using two sound devices. One analog for music and a hdmi device for TV/movies. But I might be wrong ith this.

    Szenario:
A recording is ongoing, all sound devices are not muted.
ps ++ mixer while recording is ongoing.png
Than I press the power-button of the PC. The button is configured to suspend the PC (In German "Energie sparen")
After this the video-output of the PC gets disabled. The TV shoes "no signal"
After pressing the power button again I see the picture at the screen again. But now the sound is muted.
ps ++ mixer while recording is ongoing after pressing power_button_twice.png
Than I have to press the unmute button of my keyboard to get the sound back. As my remote does steer the volume of my TV, not of the PC, I can't map the unmute to the remote.

The PS++ client plugin is configured to unmute the master volume. But this seems not to work for me.

    I have attached the logs.

But now I have another question: why is hybrid sleep turned off in HTPC preset (in case of a mains failure hybrid sleep could be the savior;))?
Hybrid sleep does not make sense with a dedicated HTPC appliance (nor a server). If power is lost it reboots and everything is running again - no need to restore to a previous system state. The situation is quite different for a notebook or a desktop PC - if they loose power during sleep mode, unsaved documents etc. are lost. So in these cases hybrid sleep makes sense and PS++ activates it by default (of course only if hibernation is activated at all).

Does it work for you with MP 1.3 FINAL?

    Michael

No, it does not. Do you think the two sound devices can be the root cause?
If yes I can try if it works with the analog output disablen this evening.

Stock PS has the same issue for me.

Stock PS does nothing with audio, PS++ tries to unmute it - but obviously without success. I do not think it has something to do with the two devices, but you could do me a favour: Try out this version of PS++ and send me the logs. It's an older version, but provides debug output for volume handling.

This version worked. After the screen comes back, it took 2 or 3 seconds than the sound was unmuted.

Thanks for sending logs. The cause of your trouble is the HDMI audio device that takes some seconds to become the default audio device again after return from away mode (maybe also after return from sleep mode). In the moment of the return from away mode the other device (stereo) is the default audio device and this gets unmuted. But shortly after the default device changes and the (still muted) HDMI audio device becomes default device again...
One workaround would be not to unmute the default device but to remember the last default device and to unmute it directly (if it is the deafult device or not). The other approach would be to wait some seconds until the audio device is unmuted. I will think about it...

    Sounds logical.

That would be nice- I have the same Problem (TV connected via HDMI, but a second onboard via HD audio soundcard)

    Another question:

My computer does not enter standby mode because of two running [driver] legacy kernel callers (pwrcfg -requests)- I have hunted them down to be my two dvb-s2 tuners. They are in use because tvserver is grabbing epg info (idle grabber). Is this an intended behavior or should epg grabbing be turned off by PS++?

Thank you for all your answers!

    Thx for analysing this.

I have done a test with the 1.30 vs bevore installing your testversion.
I had disabled the analog sound device and did the awaymode cycle with only the hdmi device. It also ended with muted hdmi device. Does this fit to your theorie?
I can send logs of this in the evening if they are needed.

PS++ does not modify your EPG configuration - if you activate idle grabbing it will prevent standby while running. But EPG idle grabbing is only performed in the interval given in the EPG setting (usually 240 minutes); ie. if EPG idle grabbing has finished all channels succesfully it will wait 240 miuntes until it starts again. Only if it cannot finish its work it will grab forever.

This fits perfectly: On resume from away mode your HDMI audio device is not the default device (I assume that it is deactivated and there is no default audio device at all in this moment) and therefore it won't be unmuted.
