Thanks Michael. Think it's a shame PS++ doesn't reset the idle timer though, as that would prevent those situations where it goes to standby as soon as someone stops watching something on a client device.
It's the same as Windows does...

Hmm, any ideas what happened here?

It seems it woke at 22:00, which is when I have MCE Buddy set to start so that makes sense but then went back to sleep at 22:01:52, when I have the standby time set to 15mins

Is there no way that PS++ could stop and restart TVService on resume? I know technically stopping TVService would stop PS++ as well but couldn't it do something clever like create a scheduled task to run a batch file to do it, set to run 5s in the future, so that it won't matter when it's stopped?

I only ask because the only way I've found to do this so far is using MPStandbyHandler and that isn't exactly maintained (the last post on it's thread, before my one just now, was in 2010!) but I just found this error, which probably coincides with when I had to manually restart TVService earlier after resuming (TV Server config showed it was running but it couldn't tune in to anything)

Failed in handling the PowerEvent. The error that occurred was: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Upgraded to MP1.5 and it keeps going to standby whilst I'm watching videos. I didn't have this problem before. How can I prevent it? I've checked the client plugin is enabled and even tried adding MediaPortal to the PS++ processes list but it still doesn't show under "Standby is prevented by".

I don't really want standby to be prevented just because Mediaportal is running but idle but if it's a choice between that and it going to sleep whilst media is playing then it's the lesser of two evils.

What is the problem with having PS++ configured to avoid suspend while setuptv is running?
The problem is that as long as you have SetupTV.exe (the TV Server Configuration) running, your system will not go to standby. And since you had TV Server Configuration open to watch the suspend / wakeup status, you yourself are the reason why your system does not goto standby.;)

Michael

Of course I know setuptv is in the list of processes that should prevent standby. My issue occurs when setuptv IS NOT running.
My computer never goes to standby after MP is idle for 5 minutes when the MP client is running, as I configured it.
But when MP client is closed (and TVservice is running), the standby occurs normally after 5 minutes.

Any other idea?

Your tvservice log is very short and there are no previous logs  . Please restart the TVService and wait until your system goes to standby when it should not do so. Then send the full logs.

Michael

Yeah, I was surprised how "empty" TVservice log was. Mediaportal.log seems to have more information and show I went to standby around

[2013-08-25 12:07:31,496] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - PS: System is going to suspend

and resumed around

[2013-08-25 12:07:48,930] [Log ] [MPMain ] [DEBUG] - PS: System has resumed from standby due to user activity - reset time of last user activity

I've reinstalled PS++ via the Extensions Installer now, which strangely didn't recognise I already had it installed or ask me to uninstall it first but it seems to be working better now and at least if I add Mediaportal to the list of processes in TV Server config it shows that as preventing standby. I'll remove that as it shouldn't be necessary anyway and check whether it still goes to standby whilst playing video or not.

Then please send logs showing this period!

Michael,

Please find attached logs after I run the following scenario:
1) I deleted all logs after I stopped MP client and TV service
2) I started TV service then MP client and waited for more than 5 minutes (the standby delay) expecting a standby that never came (this is my issue)
3) I closed the MP client and waited another 5 minutes and my PC went to standby (TV service was still running)
4) I resumed MP and gathered the logs

It seems the issue comes from MP client... I just do not see what is causing activity.
