When adding the tuner to MediaPortal, do you have anything other than "Sapphire Theater 550 Pro" listed? Like, "ATI TV Wonder Elite"? If so, try using the "ATI TV Wonder Elite".

No, that's all I get.

Also, reinstalling the drivers didn't change anything.

I've installed SageTV and it works fine, no trouble timeshifting. Sadly, Sage doesn't seem to connect with graphedit either, so no new information here ...

What I really need is snake oil ... something tells me that MP and me just aren't going to be an item ... sad!

One thing worth adding:

Right now, when I go into GraphEdit when configuration.exe is displaying its error message, I actually get a choice between three different filter graphs. They all connect to pid 2644, which is configuration.exe. The numbers are:
FilterGraph 0089e128
FilterGraph 0089e2e8
FilterGraph 04375ba8

When I see the first error message, I only get the last FilterGraph thing. After I click on OK, and see the same message again, I get all three. They all stay when I click that OK and get the configuration screens.

When I try to start TV in MP I get a different number: 050fd398.

Whether any of this means anything, I don't know.

All the above variations cause GraphEdit to hang.

Does GraphEdit have some kind of logging options?

Thanks for all your help, even so!

Have you installed any codec packages or software that may have multimedia aspects that wasn't standard with XP.

There is a possibility that you have a corrupt or bad MPEG2 demultplexer that is causing the graph build failure.

Try uninstalling any software of this kind and see if this helps as the information you have so far indicates there is nothiing wrong with the ATI filters .

Hmm. Let's see. I've kept away from codec packages - I've had some weird things happen with them in the past.

I reformatted my hard disk and reinstalled XP just to get MP working, and I took a lot of care to have things nice and clean.

The only codec-ish stuff (besides windows material) that I have in is Dscaler5.8 and ffdshow.

One thing comes to mind: does MP require any codecs or filters I might still be missing? The setup wizad mentions Dscaler5 and something else - could it be I've forgotten something of the sort?

Of course, by now, I have installed a bunch of other TV related material, trying to find out more about the problems: Sage, GB-PVR, GAM and MPC. This witches brew might potentially get tanlged - but the tangle was there before I started installing them all ...

    New Info

    Aha!

I dug around in the celler until I found my old board - a WinTV item that's compatible with Dscaler4.

I put it in, fired up the PC and tried to install it in MP. Result: exact same problem! It is recognized correctly, but MP can no more get a graph with the WinTV card than with the ATI 550.

The question is where the problem actually is.

The other question is whether I shouldn't just re-format and re-install XP from scratch ... yet again. In this install I did cut one corner: I didn't bother to remove the sound and TV cards when I installed XP, then add them in one by one. That's a no-no, I believe so perhaps that put a kink in the system.

    Mike

BTW, one way or another, I would like to thank all the people who generously helped me out on this. Even if I never get it working, I've learned a lot.

    Solved!

Problem fixed - though not the easy way.

Since I had already gone to that much trouble, I went ahead and did yet another clean re-install of XP. Not exactly fun, but this time MP worked - and I found the problem as well:

I had saved my olf ffdshow settings to a .reg file, which I double clicked to restore. Apparently, is was caused by something about either (1) the settings themselves, (2) the version of ffdshow they came from or (3) a change between the version I saved the settings from and the version I installed.

It should be noted that no other programs had this problem.

I've enclosed the .reg file for future reference (extension changed to .txt).

I also had a bear of a time finding an ffdshow version that would play nice with MP - particuarly when it came to using AVSynth scripts. But I've found one, so everything is running now.

    Sound problem

I have Sapphire Theatrix 550 Pro, but when I see NICAM stereo channel, then I hear noise. What's my problem? I use latest Theater driver + VC++ and Control panel driver. But I cannot see stereo channels, because not hear. :(
I have Audigy 2 ZS, and MP 0.2.0.4
    Thanks!

There are many problems with NICAM and stereo with the latest drivers across the whole ATI multimedia range .

The ATI MMC 9.13 -9.15 forces mono because of this.

Older drivers may help in this respect but you may be out of luck.
