With some assurance that I wouldn't be out of a TV for too long (month+), I would mail my 550 pro and Vbox 150 (ATSC) to a developer (or a normal person, provided you actually think you will be able to fix the problem) with return shipping. Neither seem to work in TVE3 for me, and others have had similar problems with both.
Maybe I could throw in some other goodies too as an incentive.
I guess I see this aspect as a sticking point. Users are reporting a problem, but no-one on the approved list has access to the hardware to verify. If a problem is reported enough times, could it not be logged into mantis and marked up in a particular way, so that all the log files are collected in one place?
However, there is of course the issue of the developers not having the hardware in order to fix the problems.
In this particular instance, would it be worth contacting ATI to ask for sample cards? Surely it is in their best interest to be supported in MediaPortal. It's not as if MediaPortal is a two-bit operation and could be seen as people trying to blag a free card. MediaPortal is now one of about five leading HTPC programs, and deserves industry support.
Has anyone actually contacted the card manufacturers? I'd be happy to write/post the letters. I assume that Frodo would be the best person to send cards to, and would need his permision and real name/address in order to do this. However, I suspect that the letter would fare better from him (look suspicious if I am asking them to send cards to someone else), but I'd still be happy to write it. I can be persuasive!
It's also great that the users having the problems are prepared to send their cards. The other alternative is for say three people having the same problem to club together and buy Frodo one of the cards. This wouldn't be too expensive, and you could just think of it as "paying for MediaPortal". It's worth it!
Hi,
andreaswith, i'm located 45 min south of Oslo, so not that far away. Was thinking of getting one of the card for one of my comps & wondered where to get one from (which shop that have it here in Norway & hwat the cards salename is).
elliottmc, usually we look @ forum & invite members to the test team, after they have given lots of bug reports with necessary information......
is there any way that we could sticky this thread, or post a section in the wiki, or other simple method to allow us to keep track of developments. I guess that the mantis section would be a good start....
Thanks to the guys making an attempt on this problem
I just checked the original message, and it looks like it is in the right area:
Here i cut and paste header from web page:
"
MediaPortal Forum > MediaPortal - Main Features (talk, share your ideas, get support) > TV Server beta (Engine 0.3) > Bugreports: TV Server / Client
Problems with ati550 pro
Bugreports: TV Server / Client Post bugs you have found in TV-Server or Client here.
"
Is this not the correct place to discuss a possible bug??? I am sure he is talking about an issue with TVE3 because I have the same issue.
Even if its not the correct area, there are a whole lot of posts (just try a search on "ati" and "tune" or "channel")
remember that survey about TVE3? There are lots of posts about this issue as well. I wrote one back in March and offered to send my cards for testing, but NOBODY responded. The offer still stands, regardless of where you live.
THANX! ronilse This is very good news. Can you also add the Nvidia Dual TV card into Mantis as well? As you can see from my post I (and many others) experience the exact same issue. THANX!
