    Any ideas/advice?
That might be a disk error? Because when you deleted and installed again, it should work ;)
You may also try to manually delete the skin folder from here:
    C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\skin\PureVisionHD 1080
and then try to install new ;)

I confirm this error exist randomly.
I already have had this issue and this, on different PC.
That's why I completely backup the PVHD skin folder.
To avoid make skin settings again.
I suppose there is something writing inside the .xml skin files and sometimes, destroy it but never found the culprit.
IIRC in this case, file is not deleted but, blanked (empty inside).
    If it can help...

Errors in skin files are directly visible in GUI with black scrren and errpr message, and if so, MP log show the exact error location.
    So it can´t be that.
BTW I never had problems here, and I´m nearly constantly changing bits and pieces here and there to provide you with the best PVHD :D

    Not in this case.
When it happen, there is no error in log.
And there is no black screen.
    Instead of basichome :

Well, this has a totally different reason and is no error at all. If you want to have BasicHome only, you have to configure it in MPConfig->GUI right side last button "Home Screen".
If you configured to see both, BasicHome and ClassicHome, then GUI may switch between BasicHome and ClassicHome.
PVHD allows to switch between those two views (if configured) via the Home-icon in topbar.

This is what I tried to explain to you. ;)
When basichome is broken, depending on config, classichome is displayed, that's why no error and no blackscreen.
But it remain that basichome and its settings are loose in this case.
    May be @DHosein could confirm.

    When basichome is broken,
BasicHome can´t "break". What may happen is that the SkinSettings.xml is not updated correctly during a MP session resulting in this weird behaviour. This I had several times here as well and that may be a skin engine problem, a problem with the hard disk/SSD or the priority setting of MP ;)

MAybe it is SkinSettings.xml problem instead of BasicHome problem.
This issue doesn't occurs each days but randomly and not very often.
At least, you understood that this issue exist and, the result is the same, skin (maybe engine) broken. :)
I can't believe that all my 4 PC using MP client has I/O disk errors. ;)

OK - I've tried manually deleting the folder and reinstalling. Still can't get things working correctly. Although I no longer get a unhandled exception trying to edit basichome... I can't get the program to display basichome. It seems to stick with classichome now regardless of settings, and I can't see any way of editing entries on classichome.

It does seem skin specific.. strangely a download and install of the PureVision xmas skin works just fine (although the sound effects drive me a little crazy)
