Thanks for your replies.
The Zotac mobo with ION is definitely capable of full HD utilising VMR9. I can play full HD mkv files perfectly, though I do have to use CoreAVC which correctly utilises the ION's cuda acceleration and it works perfectly for all resolutions all the way up to 1080p. For what it's worth, standard videos all play perfectly using the standard MS codec with TV resolution set at 1080p with either EVR or VMR9.
So I'm primarily concerned with standard definition TV streams with resolution set to 1080p (not tested with HD TV - I only have DVB-T). I've tried as many different codecs as I can find and none improve the quality with EVR. Only VMR9 is as smooth as silk on all videos and TV channels at all resolutions, but I can't use it without the menu/skin glitch happening all the time, which you alluded to earlier that you won't be looking into it. So I'm kinda stuck! Nonetheless, I'm still open to other suggestions and any other input.
I know of only one thing that will fix it right now - a cold beer in the warm sun before it goes down.....
Cheers
