The loopback is killing your IP...
192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.65

192.168.1.1. does not have a default gateway so pings have nowhere to go....

OK. However, I can access my NAS from the live MP2 PC and it is on the internet. Does that make sense?

Your NAS is on the internet or on the Intranet (local network) ??

Then MP should be able to communicate with it without having a loopback.
That message you read that talked about using a loopback is old and there have been a lot of changes to MP2 since then.

Remove the loopback and reboot.
Ping each device from the server
Ping each device from the client only
Ping each device from the NAS (if you can)
Anything that fails will need to be fixed

There's not a lot happening on my test MP2 PC if MP2 is downloading from the internet. Is something stopping it?

I'll try now. The live MP2 PC is both client and server. My NAS is from Synology.

I couldn't work out how to ping from the Synology NAS.Try again tomorrow.

I can ping the NAS from the live and test PCs but they still can't ping each other.
