You have to install a software that comes with a supported software encoder. You can find a sample list of supported encoders here: UserGuides/SW-Cards_setup - MediaPortal Manual Documentation. Except from the list of supported encoders the page is outdated.

Hi Galaad45,how did you solve this? I have the same problem with an AverMedia card also.

Hi Royhid,

The problem was partially solved with a previous version of Mediaportal (I think it was 1.0.2) by simply installing intervideo winDVR. I mean that the scan did not crash anymore and I was able to see the television. But the quality was awful and it took several seconds to change from one channel to another... So I didn't use mediaportal to see the television but the software delivered with avermedia (averTV).
Now, since I have the 1.1.0 RC1 version, I still have a missing codec... And installing winDVR does not change anything.
