OK thank's, I'll try those. I have actually read your post several times, but the instruction "If you have WinXP + ATI, use Catalyst 8.5, or you will see nice BSOD, freezes, etc 8.6-8.9 is not working in WinXP!!!" seemed to be outdated as a new version (9.2) existed. I tried, and have not seen any BSOD/freezes, so i thought that this new version was OK.

And, thanks for both your effort in making SAF and giving good support here!

edit: And I actually read the wikipedia article about Avivo too, and for me it seems like Avivo is the HW rendering capabilities of my card - that's why i found it strange not to use it / install the Avivo drivers.

SAF uses windows media player class home cinema video decoder which supports hardware decoding otherwise called DXVA. No Avivo drivers are necessary.

Guys I have the time right now to upgrade to the latest SVN/latest SAF/latest CLVsd.ax etc..

I've never installed a new SVN onto Mediaportal, if I plan to use SAF 3.44 which SVN should I install? There are a fair few on the forum..

Ok, I'm now running Catalyst 9.2, SVN 21720, SAF 3.44, and the PowerDVD9 CLVsd.ax.

Still my 1080p MKV's play with 80% CPU, whether DXVA is enabled or not (using the SAF reg keys).

I do have the AMD Dual-Core Optimizer installed. Thoughts?

EDIT: as a reminder, I have an integrated HD3200 and an Athlon 5200+.

First of all, AVIVO is integrated in to Catalyst.
This extra AVIVO "drivers" is not drivers. It is package wich alows you to use ATI GPU to encode (not to decode!) you HD movies. As i now it is really buggy with bad picture quality. nVidia have sililar produkt known as CUDA (now released as standalone library).

It looks like Visata problem. Just write thru registry your build number in to empty value.

Yes, but why? MPC-HC do the same work and a lot more.
