Your description is exactly correct on how they play back. They are downloaded off the net (yes) Most play fine, it was just a couple. Is there anything wrong using the Divx H2.64 codec? I am still new to this whole codec thing. I am not even sure how you turn off dxva lol. Still in the learning process so Not sure why one codec is better then the other etc.

Thanks for your feedback

Please anyone help me to answer:

- what is the advantage of using i) this SAF package over ii) the combination of ffdshow video decoder + Haali Media Spillter + AC3Filter + DirectVolsub
- normally i am using (ii) option (but i do not activate the Haali Media Splitter in MP Configuration / Video Post Proccessing) and i found that MP don't play some of my movies although MPC play them smoothly. Codecs are the same for both. I don't know if using SAF can solve this weird?
- In case i still prefer using option (ii) then how to play HD file with dvxa support?

The other codecs won't give you hardware acceleration. So, if you use them you will see less errors with those files (because it's software decoding), but dxva isn't being used so your cpu usage would be high. If you use SAF you'll get DXVA but it's "picky" so you may have some problems with downloaded files. I simply run them through xvid4psp and it cleans them up nicely.

The advantages are:
1) a package tailored to MediaPortal and easy to setup
2) DXVA. If you don't need this that's great. If you do, then SAF is the way to go! I have a pentium 4, 3ghz and I can play a 1080p video file with 5% cpu usage. It's incredible!

In order to get dxva you'd need to use MPC-HC video decoder which is exactly what SAF uses. :) FFDshow, coreavc, are all software (cpu intensive) decoders. I loved ffdshow back in the dvd ripping days, but you need a new(er) pc to use it with HD material.

In the end, this is my opinion and choose whatever works best for you.

Installation Problem

Hello Together!

I am new here and i tried to install SAF. But when running the installation on my Windows Vista Business HTPC the installer cannot find MediaPortal. I have the Haali media splitter installed and the installation routine of SAF finds it.
Mediaportal is installed in the standard c:/program files/Team Medaportal/...
I hope someone of you can help me to install SAF on my PC.
Thank you very much!

Check if you have "VersionBuild" key in registry: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\MediaPortal]

No idea why some users missing this key in registry. I have it on my 3 test XP computers (maybe some vista issue?)

Hey hoborg,

thanks for the quick answer and your help.
I´ll try this in a few hours and post again if this didn´t help.

Please, export HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\MediaPortal from registry and post it here.

Then i will be able to modify SAF to fix this issue.

Are you sure it's this key or is it that they're not running the svn?

If key is missing, MP is not detected.
