I Wanted to understand the upgrade best practice before upgrading to MP 1.01:

1) Upgrade MP to 1.01
2) Install SAF 3.47

I am currently running MP 1.0.0 and SAF v3.3.0
Should I try to uninstall SAF 3.30 first?

Another question, I do not currently have the option of selecting "MPC-MPA Decode Filter" as shown on the first page, only "MPA -Decode filter" Is this due to the version or something I did wrong?

So you set MPA as your audio codec but AC3filter as a postprocessor? how do you do that?
I tried all settings in the DTS, didn't matter. Every file with dts audio, the video was perfect but the audio skipped.

In configuration go to Video [+], find postprocessing. You can add AC3Filter by double clicking it and checking the box in the top part of the streen. (double clicking there removes it again.)

I believe this is the "auto" setting in ac3filter that made everything work. I'm guessing that MPA doesn't do this?

Ok, ac3filter as the postprocessing worked great, thanks for the tip! The only way for me to get DTS audio out spdif without skipping is to use ac3filter and set DTS type to "auto". I guess I wondered if that worked, couldn't MPA have a feature like that too? I posted over in the doom9 forums but I'm ignored.

I am trying to get mcebuddy working with SAF but dont seem to have had much luck with h264. Would like to use this conversion for quality reasons. MCEbuddy has converted the files, but MP says "unable to play file"

Hoborg's guide states SAF can only play H264 "if the files are made correctly", so I assume its something to do with the conversion format. I wonder if there's anything I can do do tweak SAF to play this file?

Has anyone used MCEbuddy H264 conversion with SAF successfully?

Any suggestions for an alternate conversion format with similar quality?

Yes, that is corect.

You should update/reinstall SAF after every MP update.

I have no experience with MCEBuddy.
What exactly it do?
SAF will play any h264 video, but only correctly mabe will use DXVA.
Can you post small example of not working video?

I didn't. Most of my recordings i simply watch&delete.
If i want to store recording, i use Womble MPEG Video Wizard to cut my MPEG2 recording (trim begin, end and cut comercials), then use Xvid4PSP to transcode to h.264 MKV.

Consider yourself lucky! I have a Harman Kardon AVR-330 and the audio skips like crazy with MPA's DTS output over spdif. I've talked to others with this problem too, and we don't all have harman's. Perhaps your receiver is doing something to fix it.

Note I'm using the cccp2005's MPC-HC subtitle patch, so I get DXVA with subtitles (which I need). Maybe it's the key, as MKV+subs with DTS track aren't watchable for me with SAF only (heavy choppy playback/audio). So I bet the subs engine (aka DXVA properly enabled), has something to do with it.

good question, I'll try and check to night if dxva is still working.

Any kind of audio filter shouldn't kill DXVA...
DXVA is killed only when some filter is inserted between MPC-HC decoder and video renderer.

Good point, I was pretty sure that even with ac3filter I was still getting dxva.
